The geographer has created an interactive map with the birthplaces of the most famous people in the world

Finnish geographer Topi Chzhukanov, an employee of the American mapping company Mapbox, created interactive map, which marked the birthplaces of prominent personalities from around the world from different historical eras.

The list of names noted by Chzhukanov is taken from ratingA cross-verified database of notable people, 3500BC-2018AD / Scientific Datapublished this June in the journal Scientific Data. This list takes into account the number of pageviews of articles about prominent personalities on Wikipedia in various languages ​​between 2015 and 2018, as well as the number of external links to Wikidata. Cards with the names of famous people contain information about their gender, whether they are alive and what line of the rating they occupy.

The map interface allows you to sort personalities into categories such as culture, science, politics, and sports.

For example, Mikhail Gorbachev's card states that the politician is "probably alive" and ranks 147th in the popularity rating. Singer Björk is on the 241st line, she is marked as the most popular person in Iceland. And, for example, Arnold Schwarzenegger, who was born in Austria, takes 56th place in the overall ranking.
