Apple to revive three discontinued devices
Miscellaneous / / July 22, 2022
Of course, we are talking about new generations, and not re-release of old models.
According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple plans to bring back three popular devices that are not in the brand's current portfolio.
homepod
Although the HomePod mini remains on sale in an expanded range of colors, the full-size speaker on the Apple website has not been available since March 2021. Gurman claims that the company plans to return the flagship column to the system. She is will receive updated upper display and the same S8 processor as in the upcoming Apple Watch Series 8, and in size and sound quality will be closer to the original HomePod than to the mini version.
Also Gourmet earlier informedthat Apple is developing a device that will combine the HomePod, Apple TV and FaceTime camera, but there are no details about this hybrid yet.
12" MacBook
There have been no models in this form factor in the current Apple line since July 2019: it was replaced by the 13-inch MacBook Air. They get all the same benefits, including an ultra-slim design, no active cooling design, Force Touch trackpad, and impressive battery life.
The main reason for the rejection of the 12-inch version was its modest capabilities. Intel processors, compact size and high performance just didn't match when the latest generation was released. But with Apple Silicon processors, the conversation is different. Newly Gourmet toldthat in 2024 Apple will release a 12-inch MacBook - however, it may well come out in the Air or even Pro line.
iMac Pro
Another device that we said goodbye to relatively recently: it was withdrawn from sale in March 2021, right before the presentation 24" iMac on M1. The 27-inch iMac has also disappeared from the shelves, so now the flashy 2021 iMac remains the only one current all-in-one, and for maximum performance you will have to turn to Mac Pro (or at least studio).
Rumors that the iMac Pro will return with an Apple Silicon processor have been around for quite some time. By data an insider, the new iMac or iMac Pro could come out as early as next year. Most likely, they will receive M2 Pro and M2 Max processors, but they may also come out with M3.
