Google releases ChromeOS Flex, an operating system for older PCs and Macs

Google has prepared a new variant of ChromeOS called Flex (and at the same time removed the space from the name of the system). This version is intended for installation on old computers in companies and educational organizations.
The system was tested on devices from Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, Lenovo, LG, Toshiba, as well as some Macs - including 10-year-old MacBooks. Total in list compatible computers more than 400 models. Certification is still ongoing, and Google notes that you can try to install the system even on a device not on the list, although there may be minor stability issues.

To create ChromeOS Flex, Google acquired Neverware, which previously sold an app called CloudReady. It allowed users to migrate their old computers to Chrome OS. The release coincided with the recent release of Windows 11, which left behind millions of older PCs due to incompatibility.
