Yes, in the same place where the coronavirus was once discovered.
Wuhan University has reported a case of cholera. One of the students was sick. He was admitted to the hospital with infectious diarrhea accompanied by fever. About it writes Bloomberg.
The study of analyzes confirmed the causative agent of cholera. After effective diagnosis and treatment, the patient's condition was brought under control, and the symptoms disappeared.
There is no spread of the disease yet, but all patient contacts are being traced, and some local institutions are already closed for disinfection. At the moment, more than 250 people have been tested, who theoretically could become infected. Three of them have been quarantined.
Cholera is an acute intestinal infection that is spread through contaminated food and water. The disease affects both children and adults and, if left untreated, can lead to death in a few hours.
WHO notesthat in the world annually there are from 1.3 to 4.0 million cases of cholera with 21,000–143,000 deaths. At the same time, the disease is quite rare in China: only one case was detected in March, and five in the past year.
The discovery of the infection in Wuhan, the initial epicenter of COVID-19, is due to the fact that China's healthcare system faces unprecedented control as coronavirus infection still lingers despite zero tolerance.
