How to tie peas in the beds in the open field
Miscellaneous / / June 22, 2022
Make a support for climbing plants. So it will be easier to care for them and harvest.
Why tie peas
There are several important arguments in favor of this approach:
- Beds with tied plants look well-groomed and neat.
- Peas are easier to care for: water, loosen and weed.
- Plants have less contact with the soil, which means that the risk of diseases is lower.
- Landings well blown and evenly illuminated, so that the harvest is better.
- Plants do not collapse even in bad weather, when rain and wind tend them to the ground.
- It is much easier and more convenient to collect ripe pods from entwined supports.
Although the procedure is not necessary for all plants. If the package with seeds is marked “resistant to lodging”, you can do without additional designs.
How to properly tie peas
- Bury stakes for support into the ground by about a third of the entire height or a little less. So they will be stable.
- To make horizontal bars, use twine, which can be bought at any store for summer residents and gardeners.
- Start attaching the plants to the supports when the stems are already 15–20 cm long and the first tendrils appear. Then the peas will weave themselves.
How to tie peas in the garden in a horizontal way
Place two vertical supports on both sides of the bed. The height of the above-ground part is needed no more than a meter, and they should be buried in the ground by about a third of the entire length.
Stretch the twine between the supports. The first level is at a height of about 15–20 cm, and then two or three more times in increments of 20–25 cm. As you grow peas he himself will move to a new “step” and twist around it. Help in the form of winding the antennae on the support may be needed only at the first step.
There is another way to horizontal garter. Supports on both sides of the beds need the same as in the first case. The difference is in the tension of the twine.
Stretch the rope from one post to the other, wind it around the support once or twice and direct it in the opposite direction so that the peas are fixed between the threads. Tie both ends of the twine. When the plants stretch another 20-25 centimeters, repeat. The higher your peas, the more strapping you will need.
How to tie peas in the garden in a vertical way
Near each bush, install a wooden stake 80-100 cm high, stepping back from the stem 10-15 cm. You can also use rebar and even branches of a suitable length, only they must first be cleaned of bark. When the peas have grown to 20-25 cm, attach them to the support with a fabric tape 2-3 cm wide. Repeat if necessary garter a few more times with a step of 20-30 cm.
For parallel beds, another option is suitable. On both rows, place a stake between each pair of plants. Both supports can be placed at a slight angle or one can be made straight. The main thing is that they cross at the top. For structural strength, a crossbar can be placed on top.
At a height of 20-25 cm from the ground, stretch the twine along both rows. When the plants reach it, wind the whiskers around the thread.
If necessary, as you grow, connect the whiskers of two bushes that grow side by side, and wind them up behind a support. Although help may not be needed.
Suitable as a support and other plants, for example sunflower or corn.
It is not necessary to specially attach peas to them: he himself will gradually braid around stable stems.
How to tie peas on a net
Between two parallel beds, along their edges, install two wooden or metal supports. Stretch the mesh between them and fasten well on both sides. If the bed is long, additional supports can be placed every 1.5 meters or more - so the structure does not sag.
When the antennae appear on the peas, wind them around the net. Further, the plant will not need your help. You can also simply direct the stems into the cells at the initial stage, and over time, the peas will master the support themselves.
It is better to install the structure before planting, and sow the peas in a checkerboard pattern. The mesh can also be pulled at an angle of 60 degrees on fence. The south side is suitable - so the plants will get enough light.
