The first tests showed how Apple's M2 processor is more productive than M1
Miscellaneous / / June 16, 2022
There is a difference, but it will be really noticeable only in the graphics.
Start of sales of new laptops MacBook Air and Pro with M2 processors has not yet taken place, so it is quite difficult to assess their real performance, but the first tests in the Geekbench 5 benchmark still managed to leak onto the Web.
According to these data, the results are as follows:
- M2 (3.49 GHz): 1,919 single-core and 8,928 multi-core;
For comparison:
- M1 (3.2 GHz): 1,707 single-core and 7,419 multi-core.
- M1 Pro (3.22 GHz): 1,760 single-core and 9,574 multi-core.
It turns out that in a single-core test, the performance gain made up about 12%, and in multi-core about 20%. This more or less corresponds to the statements of Apple representatives who spoke at the presentation about 18%.
The chip was also tested in the Metal test, which evaluates graphics performance. And here the real increase turned out to be noticeably higher - a laptop with M2 scored 30,627 points against 21,001 points for an analogue with M1. The difference was 50%, which is more than the 25-35% declared by Apple. However, the M1 Pro with 39,949 points is still
out of reach.More detailed tests, including in real scenarios, should be expected after the start of sales of the new MacBook Air and Pro, that is, next month. Pre-orders of laptops in some countries will start on June 17th.
