Every day I get a stack of e-mails in which people (men and women) write to me that do not dare to start learning programming. And you know what the most popular reason for this hesitation? "I'm too old (old) to start to code." Such letters do not come from the 65-year-old venerable people. Not. So write even those who just knocked 16.

Then I developed a three-step test that helps determine if you are not too old to start doing programming. Here he is:

The first question: You will be able to breathe? Yes? Excellent, go to question №2.

The second question: You are able to print? If "yes", then move on to the third question. By the way, if "no", it will still go on, this problem we would somehow muddle.

The third question: Are you interested in web and all you can do there? Yes? Congratulations! You're not too old to begin to engage in programming! If the answer is "no" - it does not mean that you are in fact old age, that it is impossible to teach you how to code. This is not true. Just if you are not interested, no one and nothing can force you to do programming.

Let me tell you about my father and about how he learned Spanish.

When I was a teenager, and my father was in his forties, he decided that his dream - to become a director of study abroad in Madrid. In order to get the job, the first thing he needed to do - it's good to learn Spanish to communicate freely on it.

What did he do? For example, I began to haunt me with new Spanish and Mexican restaurants and order food exclusively in Spanish. "They love it when talking to them in their own language" - he said to me, while I, being 15ti year-old boy, burning with shame and hid behind his menu.

Soon, however, disappointing setbacks and embarrassment gave way to new discoveries, as his skills in Spanish noticeably improved. And once he came into my room and asked me if I know that we in the territory of California, you can catch a lot of Spanish-speaking radio stations?
"It's incredible!" - he said. - "We are living here for so many years, and I did not know that we are so popular radio station in Spanish! Yes, it's a completely different world! "

What does it mean to be too old to learn to program?

When we say "I'm too old to learn it," we mean that there is an age when it is advisable to learn new things, and age, when to do it, like, too late. No one would say, looking at baby crawling: "Um, my friend, you're not so good go!" The baby is at a stage of development at which and must be - trained walking.

But what is normal and interesting for the child - adult unacceptable. We are so accustomed to that we already know a lot, competent at some things that we return to the basics of learning stage sounds awful.

It all depends on your determination and willingness to take a step to the side, where you will feel like an absolute beginner again.

If you follow the rule that we must begin to engage in programming only from childhood, somewhere age 8, it turns out that web browsing can only deal with people born in 1986 approximately. So now everything is web-programmers should be about 26ti years old. But we see that it is not so!

Learn how you can really

I started to learn programming, when I was 24. I got fired and I was desperate for some sort of skill that can earn. I was already 24! Yes, it's not 30, not 40, but still, I was not a child, a teenager, I did not even have been a college student. Of course, I did not become a technical director of the fashion startup (yet!), But I can make money for his ability.

I can not depend on the work. I am not dependent on corporations, which can work. For example, if one day they decide not to pay my salary, I just dismissed and will earn money for his ability. By the way, the ability to program is very much appreciated right now, during the active development of the Internet business.

Due to the ability to program comes freedom, choice and confidence in the fact that you will always be able to provide yourself and your family.
