Finally, widgets can be added to it.
At WWDC 2022, Apple showed a new version of the system for the iPhone - iOS 16. She received a new lock screen with additional customization options. You can customize the color and style of the date and time, and make the screen more useful with widget support.
Now you can view the status of activity rings, check the weather, or view events from the calendar right from the lock screen. In the wallpaper settings menu, you can choose one of the ready-made templates and customize it for yourself.
Another innovation was Live Activities - in fact, a hybrid between a notification and a widget. It allows you to track the progress of a workout, the score of a sports match, taxi rides and more. Such a notification appears at the bottom of the screen - and, by the way, the Now Playing panel has also been classified as a new type.
In addition, you can now switch between different lock screens - just like between the watch faces on the Apple Watch. Also, different screens can be synchronized with focus modes to remove distracting things.
A couple of innovations have also affected the standard messenger "Messages". Now, when communicating over the network (not in SMS mode), you can edit an already sent message, as well as mark an incoming message as unread. In addition, in voice input mode, the keyboard remains open, which allows you to quickly edit something, and then continue dictating.
The "Online Text" feature now allows you to interact with the text in the video: just pause the video. Also, "Online Text" now supports a context menu for quick interactions. And one more innovation: in iOS 16, this feature allows you to copy only the main object from the image, separating it from the background.
