How to send a WhatsApp message without saving a contact
Miscellaneous / / May 30, 2022
There are two ways to set up quick access to this feature.
By default, WhatsApp only allows you to start a new chat with people you already have in your contacts. This is inconvenient if you only need to write a couple of messages to a person, and no further communication is planned. Fortunately, iPhone users have a couple of ways to avoid the accumulation of contacts like "Nikita the iPhone seller" and "Anastasia ask about the counters." We talk in detail about each of them.
Method 1. Through the Teams app
Instead of having to take action every time you need to send a message without adding user to contacts, it is better to create a quick command once in order to start such chats in a couple of seconds. For this:
1. Make sure WhatsApp is installed on your smartphone and you are logged into your account.
2. Open the Teams app (preinstalled on iPhone; if you removed it, download it from the App Store). In the "My teams" tab, click on the "+" icon in the upper right corner.
3. Click on the line "Search for software and actions." In the window that opens, scroll down to the option "Send messages via WhatsApp" and click on it.
4. Complete the command: click on the field to the left of "Recipient" and select "Ask every time." Then give the team a name and change the icon if you want."
5. Click on the cross icon to close the command editing. This will save the changes.
Done: now just click on the plate with the created team, and then on "Select Recipient" (yes, this is an official translation) to enter the recipient's phone number and start chatting.
You can activate the command not only manually in the application, but also using Siri. If you often send messages to people you don't want to add to your contacts, you can add a team shortcut to your desktop. To do this, open the team settings, click "Share", then select "Go to Home Screen".
After that, you do not have to open the "Teams" application every time: it will be enough to press one button, insert a number and start chatting.
Method 2. Via Safari Favorites
This method is very similar to the previous one, but instead of a command, we will create and edit a shortcut in Safari. This method is safe because it relies on the API of WhatsApp itself - that is, it provides faster access to the function of the messenger itself.
1. Open Safari and go to any page.
2. Click the Share icon and select Add to Favorites. The name can be immediately changed to something like "Whatsapp Message". Select Save.
3. Open the Safari start page. Here, press and hold the shortcut you just created until the context menu appears. Select Edit.
4. Click on the cross icon in the "Address" section to delete the previously saved link, and paste the following code into this field:
javascript:(function(){
var phone = prompt("Who do you want to text?", "9876543210");
if (phone != null) {
window.location.href=" https://api.whatsapp.com/send? phone=" + phone;
}
})();
5. Click Save.
Now, in order to send a new message, just click on this bookmark. It will open the number entry interface on top of the last opened page in Safari: just replace 9876543210 with the desired number and click OK.
