Dendy strikes back.
Retro consoles are gaining popularity in Russia again. About it informs TASS, citing a study by the OFD Platform, through which about 50 million cash receipts pass annually.
The experts compared the sales of consoles and video games in April 2021 and April 2022. 8- and 16-bit consoles (usually with pre-installed games), adapted to work on modern TVs and monitors, entered the top sales. They outsold the PlayStation consoles in terms of sales. This is due to the fact that in March, part of Sony's services became unavailable in Russia, and official deliveries of consoles and games have ceased.
Sales of retro set-top boxes increased by 13% compared to last year, but compared to January 2022, on the contrary, they decreased by 15%. The average check for such set-top boxes in April amounted to 3,530 rubles - 5% higher than last year and 10% lower than in January.
This was reflected in the overall statistics: due to the increased demand for retro game consoles sales in monetary terms in April decreased year-on-year by 78%, and since January - by 81%. The average check amounted to 31,895 rubles, which is 21% lower than last year and 68% lower than in January.
