How to clean a gas stove with what you have at home
Miscellaneous / / May 14, 2022
No expensive cleaning products - just soap, vinegar and baking soda.
Keeping a gas stove clean is important not only for the sake of aesthetics, but also for your own safety: burner holes clogged with waste do not allow gas to flow freely and can cause an accident. We have prepared a simple and understandable instruction that will help you.
What is important to do before cleaning the gas stove
Failure to follow safety precautions may result in an accident and personal injury. So first:
- Shut off the gas supply valve.
- If the stove is equipped with electric ignition or an oven, unplug the cord from the outlet.
- If the device has been recently used, let it cool down.

How to clean a gas stove
Take care of the bars
First way
- Pour ¾ cup of water into a cup, then add 3-4 tablespoons of baking soda and stir. It should turn out gruel. Such a solution is effective on its own, but to enhance its effect, you can pour 5-7 drops of dishwashing detergent into it.
- Remove the grates from the stove and place them in the tub or sink.
- Using an old toothbrush, rub them with the resulting mixture and leave for 30-40 minutes. This can be difficult - the paste will most likely start to slip, so try to securely fasten the grate so that it does not shake. When applying, pay special attention to corners, protrusions and joints.
- When enough time has passed, wash off the paste. If there is still old dirt on the grate, use the hard side sponges to remove it.
Second way
If the fat is old, then this option is better. But for him you will need a large saucepan (for 8-12 liters), which will fit the grate. You can put it in such a way that one part looks out of the container - it will be more convenient to remove the grate.
- Type in a saucepan water - 5-6 liters. Add 5 tablespoons baking soda and 2 tablespoons dish soap to it. Instead of the latter, you can use special liquid for cleaning stoves and ovens with anti-grease action - it will be even more effective.
- Put this mixture on the stove, lower the grate there and bring to a boil. This may take 20-30 minutes.
- Take out the grate. Be careful - use gloves or kitchen mittens so as not to burn yourself.
- Put it under running water and remove the softened fat with a hard sponge.
Usually, due to the effect of temperatures at this stage, even the side of the grate that was not directly in the water is cleaned. But if this does not happen, you can repeat the procedure by turning the part over. This time, you won’t have to wait for a long boil, since the water is already hot.
Third way
- Grate ¼ bar of household soap and add it to water. It will be easiest to use a bathtub or a large basin as a reservoir.
- Leave the wire racks in soapy water for 30-40 minutes.
- Then go over them with the hard side of the sponge, removing dirt, and then rinse off the soap.
Clean the burners
First way
- Prepare a soapy solution. To do this, grate ¼ bar of laundry soap on a grater and mix it with water. You may have already done this when you were cleaning the grates. In this case, you can not cook anything again.
- Remove the covers of the burners and soak them in soapy water for 5-10 minutes. Then rinse with water.
- At this time, take care of the caps of the burners - they can be made of shiny or brushed aluminum. Wipe them with soapy water and then with a damp cloth. To remove dirt was easier, you can use a toothbrush. Please note that some parts of the caps may have changed color - aluminum is easily painted. It is unlikely that they will be returned to their marketable condition.
- Check the small holes on the burner caps that the gas passes through. Make sure they are clean. If not, remove the dirt with a needle or paper clip. A toothpick will not work - it can break. Allow caps to air dry and reinstall.
Second way
Suitable if the pollution is more serious.
- Pour ½ liter of boiling water into a small saucepan. Then add ¼ cup of vinegar.
- Dip the lids and burners of the burners into the solution.
- Now you need to enter 2 tablespoons ammonia or ammonia-anise drops. But be careful: interacting with it is very dangerous, so use gloves and a mask, and also keep the window open. After you have added the alcohol to the pot, stir the solution quickly and cover it with a lid. Leave it like this for 2-3 hours.
- When the time is up, drain the solution, and place the lids and burners of the burners in water (you can add a little detergent to it).
- Clean them with an old toothbrush, rinse. By analogy with the previous method, clean the holes on the caps of the burners with a needle or paper clip. Leave to dry.
Wash the hob
Do not use abrasive materials or make aggressive movements when cleaning. It is best to take a microfiber cloth dipped in warm soapy water or a vinegar-water solution (1:1). Wipe the hob with it, removing dirt. Then wash off with clean water. And finally, polish everything with a dry cloth - preferably also microfiber.
Clean knobs and buttons
If the handles are removable, unscrew them. Most often this is done by simply pressing forward. Soak them in soapy water or a 1:1 vinegar solution for an hour. Then wash everything off using a sponge.
If the gas stove handles are not removable, gently wipe them in a circular motion with a vinegar solution. Leave without rinsing for 5-10 minutes. Cracks and narrow places can be cleaned with a cotton swab dipped in some of the liquids - soap or vinegar. Then remove the cleaner with water.
