At the same time, they showed an updated version of the mid-range Sony Xperia 10.
Sony held an online presentation, which showed two new smartphones: Xperia 1 and Xperia 10 fourth generation. Here's what you need to know about them.
Sony Xperia 1 IV
last year Mark 3 (yes, Sony uses the same generation designation system as for cameras) got a telephoto zoom lens. But it could only switch between the 70mm and 105mm focal lengths, while digital zoom was responsible for intermediate steps.
The new telephoto lens offers continuous optical zoom thanks to a revolutionary new design. The available range is from 85 mm to 125 mm, which corresponds to 3.5-5x optical zoom.
Sony is still sticking to 12MP resolution for all three cameras. The main module has a 1/1.7-inch sensor and a 24mm lens. The ultra-wide camera has a 1/2.5-inch sensor with a 16mm lens. The telephoto lens is equipped with a 1/3.5-inch sensor. All modules have OIS, except for the wide-angle one, and you have autofocus, except for the main one. All cameras can shoot in 4K @ 120 fps.
The front camera has been upgraded this year from 8MP to 12MP thanks to a new 1/2.9-inch sensor. She now also supports 4K and HDR - however, only at 30 fps. There is still no autofocus here.
It looks like Sony thought last year's 6.5-inch 4K AMOLED screen was close to perfection, so there's only one change here. But it is important: the display is now 50% brighter, which was clearly a response to criticism from users who considered the screen in the third generation to be too dark. Both the front and back of the smartphone are protected by Gorilla Glass Victus.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor is complemented by 12 GB of RAM, built-in - 256 or 512 GB, depending on the modification. At the same time, Sony has retained the micro SD slot, which is rare for the premium segment of smartphones.
The battery capacity was increased from 4,500 to 5,000 mAh. Supports fast charging 30 W, with which the gadget can be charged by 50% in half an hour. But there is no adapter included. The smartphone retained a 3.5mm headphone jack and a two-stage shutter button on the side panel. Dust and moisture protection - according to IP68 / IPX5 standards.
The Xperia 1 IV is priced at €1,400 with 256GB storage and will go on sale in June. Two versions will be available: black and purple (the second can only be ordered on the Sony website).
Sony Xperia 10 IV
Externally, the smartphone is almost identical to the third generation: as in the case of the Xperia 1, all the fun is inside. The 6-inch 21:9 OLED screen still has FHD+ resolution and 60Hz refresh rate, but maximum brightness has increased by 50%, and Gorilla Glass Victus is now responsible for protection (Mark 3 had the sixth generation).
Sony made the 10 IV a little shorter and narrower (154mm and 67mm respectively). It's also lighter: at 161 grams, Sony is touting it as the lightest 5G smartphone with a 5,000 mAh battery. Charging power here is also limited to 30 W, the unit is not included in the package. It uses a 6nm Snapdragon 695 5G processor - up from the 8nm Snapdragon 690 in last year's model.
The cameras have not changed. The rear module consists of a main 12 MP, ultra-wide 8 MP and a telephoto 8 MP with 2x zoom. The main shooter has received OIS, smart features have also been added, including improved automatic mode, auto HDR, dedicated night mode and face sharpening on the 8MP front camera. 4K support is still missing.
The smartphone retained stereo speakers and a 3.5 mm jack. There was support for the LDAC support codec, as well as the 360 Audio and 360 Reality Audio Upmix functions - the second turns ordinary stereo sound into spatial. The smartphone received IP68 protection and runs on Android 12 out of the box.
The Sony Xperia 10 IV is available in black, white, mint and lavender. It was priced at 499 euros, the novelty will go on sale in June.
