Fraudsters even use the current topic of the shortage of cash rubles and foreign currency.
The Bank of Russia named the typical methods of deception that scammers use to steal money from customers of various banks. In total, four common schemes for the work of intruders have been identified.
They report a shortage of cash rubles and foreign currency
Using the current agenda, scammers call on behalf of bank employees and report a shortage of cash rubles or foreign currency. To get out of the situation, they offer to transfer funds from a card or bank account to a “special account”. To open it, scammers request financial data, as well as a confirming SMS code from the bank.
In no case should you transfer this data, since it will be enough to withdraw all your money. When you receive such a phone call, immediately end the conversation - bank employees never ask for account and card data.
They offer to transfer money to a “special account of the Central Bank”
In this scenario, scammers call a person with a message that unknown persons are trying to kidnap money from his account and for the safety of the funds must be transferred to a “special” (“safe”) account in Central Bank. The mention of the regulator is used to lull the vigilance of a potential victim.
The result is the same - the scammers get your money, and you yourself transfer it to them, as if to the account of the Central Bank. It is worth knowing here that the Bank of Russia does not work with individuals as with clients, does not call them and does not maintain their accounts.
They offer to check the account data for leaks
In this case, fraudsters offer citizens to check whether account or card data fell into the hands of third parties. To do this, a person is sent a link to a site that supposedly checks the leak. If the victim enters his card details on this site, then all the information will immediately get to the attackers.
The Central Bank recalls that there are no sites where you can check the fact of a leak of banking information. In no case do not enter card data on dubious resources and do not follow links from persons unknown to you.
Persuade you to take out a loan
In this scheme, the attacker pretends to be a credit bureau employee and claims that scammers are trying to get a loan for the victim or loved ones. Next, a supposedly employee of the security service of a bank or law enforcement agencies may call, who will confirm the operation and offer to issue a “counter” loan independently online or in the office jar. The amount must match the amount that unknown persons draw up according to their passport data.
To be convincing, the attackers ask the victim to act quickly and not tell anyone about anything, as a secret operation is being carried out to identify the fraudster from among the bank employees. The money from the new loan must be transferred to a special account - the account of real attackers.
Here it is worth remembering that employees of banks and credit bureaus never inform citizens about changes in credit history by phone. Any such call should be terminated immediately.
If you nevertheless became a victim of scammers, then the Central Bank recommends do the following:
- Immediately block the card using a mobile application or personal account on the bank's website.
- Within a day after receiving a message about debiting funds, write a statement at the bank branch about disagreement with the operation.
- Report the theft of money to any police station.
