Enthusiasts hope to make AI so believable that you won't notice you're not talking to a human.
Somnium Space, a Czech company specializing in VR and NFT, announced about the desire to create a virtual space "Eternal Life", which will allow you to communicate with digital copies of dead people.
Artur Sychev, CEO of the project, noted that he began working on the ability to save data about people after his father died of cancer three years ago. He realized that his young children did not have time to learn and remember what grandfather was, and decided to create a VR space in in which relatives can communicate with the dead in a believable manner - at least for some time.
To do this, it is planned to recreate in virtual reality avatars with artificial intelligence that would imitate the appearance, voice, as well as manners and personality of people. Sychev notes that the main goal is to make them so believable that you can talk to them for about 10 minutes before realizing that you are facing an AI, and not a real person.
This will require collecting a huge amount of information about a person, including videos in order to analyze facial expressions and movements, correspondence in order to understand the manner of communication, and more. This is the only way to train AI to realistically imitate human behavior in order to at least temporarily convince the interlocutor that it is not a car in front of him.
Somnium Space is also working with Teslasuit, a maker of haptic suits. They will be useful in two directions at once: for visitors to the virtual world, they will be able to imitate physical touch, and for those who want to digitize themselves, they will be able to collect additional data thanks to the built-in sensors.
Anticipating possible security concerns, Sychev notes that at any time it will be possible to opt out of the program and delete all collected data. Given that the company's activities are based on blockchain operations, its activities will be as open and transparent as possible.
So far, even the approximate timing of the new project is not disclosed. Would you like to participate in something like this?
