Paramount is planning to revive the Star Trek film franchise with a new film that will be a direct sequel to Infinity (2016). About it informed JJ Abrams himself during a presentation to investors.
The director noted:
We are very pleased to announce that we are hard at work on the new Star Trek movie, which will begin filming towards the end of the year. It's going to have some established actors back and some new characters that I think will be really fun and help take Star Trek to places you've never seen before. We are thrilled with this film... Until then, live long and prosper.
Negotiations with key actors will begin in the near future. Should return: Chris Pine (Captain James T. Kirk), Zachary Quinto (Commander Spock), Zoe Saldana (Lieutenant Uhura), Karl Urban (Dr. Leonard McCoy), John Cho (Lieutenant Hikaru Sulu), and Simon Pegg (Lieutenant Commander Montgomery Scott).
Abrams will produce the film, with Matt Shackman directing.Wanda/Vision»). Josh Friedman (Avatar 2) and Cameron Squires (WandaVision) will write the script.
The exact release date of the untitled film has not yet been announced, but earlier insiders mentioned December 2023.
