The creators of the project promise that it will be something epic.
An anime feature film set in the Lord of the Rings universe, titled The War of the Rohirrim, has a release date of April 21, 2024. About it informs Variety.
First information about the project appeared back in June 2021. Even then, the name, some details of the plot and the director became known - they will be Kenji Kamiyama, known for the TV series Ghost in the Shell: Alone Syndrome.
A source has now confirmed that the anime will take place approximately two centuries before the events of Tolkien's The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. War of the Rohirrim follows the exploits of Helm Hammerhand, King of Rohan, and the creation of Helm's Deep, the fortress featured in Peter Jackson's The Two Towers.
The project involved: Philippa Boyens, who worked on the script for all parts of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, John Howe, the illustrator of J. R. R. Tolkien, and Richard Taylor, who acted as costume designer and make-up artist on The Lord of the Rings.
The Lord of the Rings films took Tolkien's masterpieces to new cinematic heights and inspired an entire generation. It's a gift to be able to return to Middle-earth with many of the same creative visionaries and the talented Kenji Kamiyama at the helm. It will be an epic picture unlike anything the audience has ever seen.
