All thanks to the new power saving mode.
HMD Global has announced the new Nokia G21 smartphone. This is an improved version of last year's Nokia G20, which received an updated display and camera, but retained an affordable price tag. The manufacturer also worked on autonomy: a 5,050 mAh battery will last up to three days without recharging.
This was achieved by improving the power saving mode. If earlier it was activated at the last 10% of the charge, now the smartphone goes into it already at 20%, and at 10% the second level is activated, which further reduces the charge consumption. Interestingly, the autonomy of the G20 was also declared as 3 days.
Probably, changes in the power system were required due to the improved display: the 6.5-inch LCD screen received a refresh rate of 90 Hz instead of the usual 60 Hz. In addition, unlike its predecessor, the new model supports Netflix streaming at 720p. The resolution of the screen itself is 1600 × 720 pixels.
The main camera has also been updated: 50 megapixels instead of 48 megapixels in the G20. Nokia does not reveal details about its size and characteristics, but notes the presence of a night mode and a Super Resolution function that automatically enhances image detail. Additional modules - macro and depth sensor, each 2 megapixels.
The 8 MP front camera supports advanced face unlock that works even if the user is wearing a mask. There is also a fingerprint scanner - it is located on the side panel.
The 12nm Helio G35 processor we saw in the G20 has been replaced with the more powerful Unisoc T606. It is also 8-core and made using a 12nm process technology, but has two Cortex A75 cores and six A55 cores, while the Helio G35 uses eight A53 cores. The chipset also has an LTE module: there is no 5G support here. The smartphone has two slots for SIM-cards and a separate slot for microSD, so you don't have to choose between additional memory and communication.
The smartphone will go on sale with Android 11, but will receive two major system updates (Android 12 and 13), and will also receive security patches for three years.
The Nokia G21 will be available in Blue and Bronze Brown in a single 4GB/128GB version. In Russia, it was estimated at 15,990 rubles, the smartphone is already available for purchase.
