By 2100, only one city on the planet will be able to host the Winter Olympics.

Due to climate change, air temperatures in cities that previously hosted the Winter Olympics are steadily rising. Global warming is provoked by greenhouse gas emissions. Their volumes are gradually decreasing, but this is not enough to prevent a climate catastrophe.

Scientists analyzed data on the climate of cities hosting the Olympics since 1920. In February, during the competition, in the 1920-1950s, the average air temperature was 0.4 ⁰C, in the 1960s-1990s - 3.1 ⁰C, and in the XXI century - 6.3 ⁰WITH.

In such conditions, it is very difficult to hold competitions in biathlon, cross-country skiing, snowboarding and alpine skiing. Natural snow does not fall at positive temperatures, and artificial snow melts very quickly.

The researchers emphasized: the number of injuries of athletes participating in the last three winter Olympics has increased by 55%. One of the reasons for this is the poor quality of the snow.
