Thing of the day: Ekto One boots that allow you to walk in virtual reality

But at the same time stay put.
A VR kit usually only includes cameras, a helmet, and hand controllers, leaving the legs idle. Startup EktoVR decided fix it - the Ekto One boots will allow you to walk, run or overcome obstacles in virtual worlds.
Boots were created primarily for employee training. Companies are increasingly moving training courses to virtual reality, and Ekto One, according to the developers, will help prepare for difficult and dangerous conditions, improve the safety and productivity of specialists, make simulations more efficient.
With boots, you can create virtual spaces of any shape and size. Since the person in Ekto One physically remains in place, the scale of the training zones will not have to be changed.
Ekto One is suitable for most shoe sizes and does not make extraneous sounds during use. The basis of the design of the boots is a carbon fiber frame, and motorized wheels are located on the sole. To simulate movement, they rotate backwards - and the user thinks that he is walking forward. When combined with a VR headset, it feels like the student is really traveling through the virtual world.
The project is at an early stage of development, so when Ekto One can be ordered is unknown. However, the development of simulations for them will also take some time. But it is quite possible that similar solutions will appear for video games.
