The Book of Boba Fett is like a mixture of The Godfather and the old Star Wars. And this is curious

On December 29, the series "The Book of Boba Fett" was launched on the Disney + streaming service. This is another project in the Star Wars universe. The authors brought it up to launch in the second season of The Mandalorian, bringing back a long-lost mercenary from classic films to action.

Roughly the same team is working on the new series: the first episode was directed by Robert Rodriguez, and then Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni will return. But, judging by the released series, it will be very different from its predecessor both in the plot and in the atmosphere.

Flashbacks and Star Wars references

The Mandalorian revealed that after the events of the second season, Boba Fett and his new assistant Fennec Shand flew to the planet Tatooine in the city of Mos Espa, where the criminal Bib Fortuna ruled. But the heroes decided to change the government. Therefore, Boba killed Beeba (perhaps this is the best phrase in the review) and decided to put things in order.

However, the series starts from earlier events. Viewers are shown the backstory of Boba Fett: as fans of the films remember, in the sixth episode, the mercenary flew into the mouth of the sarlacc - a huge creature devouring everything around.

Before appearing in The Mandalorian, the hero was considered dead (the events from the comics are no longer canonical). "The Book of Boba Fett" tells how he escaped from the insides monster. And, more importantly, how he survived later, because Boba was captured by the inhabitants of the Tusken desert. It seems that further a significant part of the action will be devoted specifically to flashbacks.

Because of this approach, the new series makes references to the classic Star Wars even more often thanMandalorian». Fans will see many familiar creatures and places. Even an unusual variation of the famous melody from the cantina will sound.

Of course, all this often resembles a regular fan service. But if we take into account the small timing (about 35 minutes) and the obviously ironic approach of the authors, such techniques are quite acceptable here.

Fantastic "The Godfather"

The main storyline of The Book of Boba Fett is about establishing the heroes' power in Mos Espe, if not Tatooine. And in this part, the series resembles a variation of The Godfather from the world of Star Wars. Fett's plan sounds pretty pathetic: in contrast to Jabba the Hutt, who ruled with fear and violence, the hero plans to gain respect.

Luckily, the creators don't try to be too serious. They play on classic moves from crime films, for example, a visit by local authorities with a tribute or a tour of the heroes of their new possessions. And almost every scene is discharged with playful twists: instead of gifts, they can "bring" respect from the boss, and other visitors even speak an unfamiliar language.

It is not yet clear how this line will develop. It is likely that Boba Fett and Fennek Shand will face competitors and deal with crime with the support of new associates.

Classic action and rubber aliens

Almost a third of the first episode is occupied by fighting scenes. Moreover, they are completely different here: from a bare-handed fight with another unknown monster to a long chase and fight on rooftops.

However, most of these points are quite simple. And Temuera Morrison is already moving too slowly to give out real drive.

But here you just need to keep in mind that "The Book of Boba Fett" will resemble the aforementioned old "Star Wars". The aliens look like rubber dolls, and the furnishings are almost toy-like. This approach even added to the "Mandalorian": all the fans fell in love with baby Yoda (in fact, the character's name is Grogu, but the popular name stuck better) franchises. Perhaps, "The Book of Boba Fett" will appeal to those who are tired of the dominance of graphics in the prequels.

The main plus of the new series so far is that it does not look like a banal repetition of The Mandalorian. The project has a different structure, and in the main storyline, the heroes seem to be solving local problems. Perhaps the authors will be able to slightly expand the world of "Star Wars", showing the life of one distant planet.
