Why you shouldn't quit in January, even if you want to start the year from scratch

Quitting at the turn of the years is very symbolic. You work out the last day in the past year, take your labor, shoot a video to upload to Reels to sad music... It seems like you turn the page and in the new year you start life with a clean sheet.

This makes a pragmatic sense, if by some miracle you found a job at the end of December and at the beginning of January you will go to a new place. If you succumb to an impulse and leave nowhere, you should slow down. This solution has several drawbacks.

You will lose money

When people talk about income, they usually mean monthly salary. But each working day has its own price - different depending on the month. For example, in December 2021 there are 22 working days, in January 2022 - 16. With a salary of 40 thousand, one of them costs 1.8 thousand in December, and 2.5 in January.

Accordingly, quitting in January means losing the opportunity to get more money for less work. This is not rational. It is wiser to work out at least January as well, and there you can already write statement.

Another nuance may appear if employees are paid the thirteenth salary. Usually it is credited with the fact that he worked in the company for a year. Therefore, the recipients of this award are determined at the very end of the outgoing year or the beginning of the future. If it is known about your departure before this happens (and you must submit an application at least 14 days before dismissal), you should hardly count on this payment.

Finding a job is harder in early January

There may be an illusion that recruiters and personnel officers will leave after the holidays with renewed vigor and how they will begin to fill vacancies. But this not this way.

In most departments, December is an emergency. After the rest, employees begin to close last year's tails, everything that fell into the folder "colleagues, let's go after the holidays." Only those desperately in need of staff will apply to find new employees. But there are few such vacancies.

Back in January, companies continue to approve budgets. The bosses are not yet sure how much they have and whether they can afford to hire someone. Therefore, they are in no hurry to look for new people.

Of course, a unique specialist, who will be torn off with his hands at any time of the year, will have no problems finding a job. But others are likely to run into difficulties.

You can regret the dismissal

October, November, December are usually difficult. Daylight hours decrease, and along with this, the amount of energy decreases. On the contrary, the number of cases grows like a snowball by the end of the year. It's no surprise that you can feel tired and want to quit. Burnout is not a fiction for the lazy, but disease.

But it makes sense to make it through the New Year holidays. You will have more than a week. These days you can relax, get distracted, understand if everything is really so bad or if the tension has subsided and you can return to your business with the same enthusiasm.

Any job, even a beloved one, sometimes makes you sad and angry. The reasons may be different, including those not related to it. But under stress, sometimes running away is the first thing that comes to mind. As soon as the pressure decreases, this thought goes away.

By taking a break and going on vacation, you can just reduce the level of stress and make decisions rationally, not under the influence of emotions. If nothing changes after the weekend, well, finish January and you can go to search something better.
