They help fight “senile vision”.
American Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved new eye drops to help fight presbyopia, also known as “senile vision". These are age-related problems with focusing on near objects that affect most people over the age of 40.
How informs American edition of CBS News, a drug called Vuity enters the market and is positioned as the first FDA-approved drops for presbyopia. They take effect within 15 minutes after application, narrowing the patient's pupil and allowing vision to focus on near objects. Manufacturers claim that the effect of one drop will last 6-10 hours.
The drug is recommended for use by people aged 40-55 years. During a 3-month clinical trial in which 750 volunteers took part, the side effects of the drops were revealed: headache and redness of the eyes.
However, the response from the test group was positive. CBS News quoted 54-year-old test participant Tony Wright as saying, “It really changes lives. Previously, it was difficult for me to accept that I was getting old and I needed to wear glasses almost all the time. Now I rely on them much less, especially when I use a computer, which I could not do without glasses. "
It is noted that the manufacturer Vuity will conduct additional tests to determine the effectiveness of the drug in long-term use. The drug is positioned not as a treatment, but as a temporary relief of the symptoms of presbyopia. It is suitable for moderate severity situations and is not recommended for use when driving at night.
These drops are already on sale in the United States. The monthly package was estimated at $ 80 (≈5,900 rubles).
