This work of the creator of "Jay and Silent Bob" Kevin Smith was not appreciated by most critics. The audience, alas, also did not understand the picture. But you don't need to take "Tusk" too seriously. After all, the plot of the film was literally taken from a joke.
The fact is that Smith, along with his longtime colleague and friend Scott Monsieur, just like his hero, hosts a funny podcast. And in one of the episodes, the presenters discussed the real announcement. In it, a certain landlord offered free accommodation, provided that the tenant agreed to dress like a walrus from time to time.
At first they just laughed at this wildness, and then decided that this was a great starting point for thriller. The presenters arranged a vote on Twitter, and Smith's subscribers decided what the film should be.
By the way, later it turned out that the author of the ad is a big fan of Kevin Smith. He made an absurd publication specifically to attract the attention of an idol. And in the end, Smith appointed him one of the producers of Tusk.

British science fiction writer Clive Barker became famous primarily as the author of the story "Hellraiser", which he himself later filmed. The film became his directorial debut and later grew into one of the largest horror franchises. The image of Pinhead's "nail-headed" cenobite has generally become cult and has been quoted many times in popular culture.
Now, of course, what is happening on the screen is no longer so disgusting and frightening: the special effects, although excellent for their time, are still outdated. But at the time of the making of the film, they were cutting edge and terrified viewers.

In the filmography of David Cronenberg there are a variety of pictures, but first of all, the name of the director is associated with cruel and provocative cinema. It is not surprising, since the dominant leitmotif of many of his works is physical mutations and madness.
Interestingly, the first half of the film develops as a melodrama about the relationship of a couple in love. But then a pure thriller begins with the eerie transformations of the protagonist, at the sight of which the stomach constricts even today.
For the make-up for The Fly, artist Chris Wallace received an Oscar. Then he shot a sequel, which, however, is inferior to the original in all respects: after all, the director from Wallace came out not as brilliant as the master of special effects.
