Chloe Zhao's film starring Frances McDormand is inspired by the non-fiction book of the same name by Jessica Burden. The picture came out heartfelt and bewitching. She also talks about important topics: the loss of loved ones, the marginalization of socially vulnerable segments of the population, the crisis of the social system and loneliness.

8. Thelma and Louise

Oscar-winning director Alfonso Cuarón contributed to the creation of one of the best Mexican dramas and renowned cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki, who, by the way, is also a multiple winner of Oscar premiums. Behind the provocative plot hides a subtle and sensual movie about the vicissitudes of growing up, about life and death, about the difficult political situation in the country.

It's funny that it was after watching "And Your Mom, Too" that Hollywood bosses decided to entrust Cuaron to shoot the third part "Harry potter». After all, there are a lot of frank scenes in this film, to put it mildly.

Director Bob Gale, co-writer of the script for Back to the Future, managed to shoot an extraordinary, but at the same time very funny and light fantastic comedy about how important it is to listen to your own desires and live your own, and not someone else's life.

5. Simple story

Feeling the approach of death, an old man named Alvin Straight decides to visit his brother Lyle, with whom they had a falling out 10 years ago and have not spoken since. The problem is, Alvin doesn't have a driver's license. But he finds a way out: he sits on a lawn mower and very slowly drives it through two states. And along the way, the stubborn hero meets various unusual people.

As the title suggests, this is the most understandable and down-to-earth film. David Lynch. By the way, the original title has a double meaning, because the hero has the surname Straight, and therefore, it is also translated as "The Story of Straight."

At the same time, it is also one of the most unusual road-movies. To an untrained viewer, the picture may seem too measured, even uninteresting. But you should be patient and wait for a very emotional and touching ending.

4. Alice in the cities

"Alice in the Cities" has become the quintessence of his style: there is no plot in this picture and even the usual ending in the standard sense. First of all, this is a movie about sensations, which should be watched like an album with your favorite photos.

3. Into the wild

The real story of the traveler, better known under the pseudonym Alexander Supertramp, became popular back in 1996 after the publication of John Krakauer's novel Into the Wild. And in 2007, based on his motives, Sean Penn shot the film of the same name. He and actor Emil Hirsch perfectly managed to reveal the character of McCandless and even explain the reasons for his act.

Not surprisingly, the painting inspired many travelers: people tried to get to the abandoned bus in Alaska, in which Chris spent his last days. But the route to it turned out to be like this dangerousthat the authorities had to take away the cult object due to the large number of accidents.

2. Nostalgia

Soviet writer Andrei Gorchakov, together with a translator, travels across Northern Italy in search of biographical traces of the serf composer Pavel Sosnovsky. The latter visited these places, but later returned to Russia, where he could not ransom himself from the master and committed suicide. Soon Gorchakov begins to realize that the musician's history echoes his own, and plunges into a strange homesickness.

His penultimate film is great Tarkovsky filmed already in Italy, where he was not limited by the Soviet censorship. And this work very clearly expressed the state of mind of the artist, devastated by the understanding that he would never see Russia again.

It's amazing that oscar a drama on such a serious topic as racism was directed by Peter Farrelli, who, together with his brother Bobby, directed famous comedies like "Everybody's Crazy About Mary", "Dumb and Dumber" and "Love Is Evil". So, the audience will find not only a touching road movie about the friendship of two dissimilar people, but also a lot of great jokes.
