For the first time in 10 years, such pictures were taken by a person.
NASA has shared new photos of the ISS from orbit taken by French astronaut Thomas Pesquet, located aboard the shuttle Endeavor, which flew around the space station before returning to Earth after a 6-month SpaceX Crew-2 mission.
Such maneuvers with people on board were last performed by the same Endeavor in 2011, which makes the photographs so special.
Sand took these photographs with the popular Nikon D5 camera - with its help he regularly takes thousands of frames from space, which publishes on your Twitter. In an interview with NASA, he noted that in just a 6-month mission, he managed to take more than 245 thousand pictures.
He was able to take footage against the background of both the Earth and outer space. These images clearly show the solar panels that power the station.
The ISS was launched in 1998 and functions as a space laboratory that allows astronauts from different countries to conduct scientific experiments in microgravity.
The station orbits at a speed of about 7.66 km / s, making a complete revolution around the Earth about once every 90 minutes.
The dimensions of the ISS are 109 meters long and 73.15 meters wide. Inside can accommodate up to 7 people at a time.
