The podcast "Now I understand": myths about dullness, feasts and the seizure of medieval castles
Miscellaneous / / November 17, 2021
Now the fortresses look gloomy and abandoned, because no one has lived in them for a long time.
In fact, when castles were inhabited, the feudal lords who lived in them strove for aesthetics. The walls of the fortresses were plastered, whitewashed or painted, and sometimes in rather bright colors. The rooms were decorated with tapestries and paintings, and sometimes with fabric wallpaper. And this is not to mention expensive and fashionable furniture for its time. So statements about the dullness and gloom of medieval castles are nothing more than a myth.
You can find even more popular misconceptions about medieval castles with their exposés in the new episode of the Now Understood audio show.
