Startask - task management for small teams without unnecessary bureaucracy
Tips / / December 19, 2019
On the eve of our editors asked the authors of the new service to teamwork Startask with the request to tell about their service to readers "Layfhakera". We decided to ask them a few questions, to which the founder and director Jaroslav Birzula service.
LH: Hello, first tell me just a couple of words about yourself.
Jaroslav: My name is Yaroslav Birzula. In the past, I have experience in various fields, but most of all I like interface design, which is engaged in since 2004. The last few years have led the small company, formerly called UXDepot, and now - Workshop Jaroslav Birzula. Create a project for the design of interfaces UX Fox, community of creative people InspireMe, but is now focused on the development of task management system Startask.
LH: Actually, the last we gathered to talk. Ask the most obvious question in the forehead - why did you decide to take up the creation of project-menezhdmenta system? What you do not like the same Basecamp?
Jaroslav: Let's start with the fact that Startask - system for managing tasks, but not for work on projects. A bit different specificity. Our project - an alternative to Wunderlist, Trello, Asana and other task-managers, but not Beyskempu (as the most famous), it complements our project.
LH: For whom is your service will be useful?
Jaroslav: For guys like us. This small team (of two to twenty-five), often geographically distributed so, that the participants are in different time zones, and this is creating some difficulties in work. Startask useful to people more or less technically advanced, although the interface is not hard to understand Startaska and elderly people :)
LH: I look at the interface and see that many things are just not there. For example, for team work group tasks by projects it is the alpha and omega, and you do not have it. Or something I do not understand? :)
Jaroslav: Not always. We, for example, the opportunity lay, but not in the current version. tasks can now be grouped tags, which can add anything - projects, the degree of urgency, and other ways to group tasks, as it is convenient to users. For many teams (especially very small ones) do not have a breakdown by project, but there is a constant waterfall of linear problems. So people Startask should be useful even in the current earlier.
We created Startask, because they are tired of what other services are trying to drive us into their box, and we wanted the simplicity and flexibility.
LH: While you were in charge, I have to play a bit with the service. In fact, it's pretty simple and concise. Frankly, this simplicity, even a little scary :) Do I understand correctly that Startaske originally not built any "bureaucratic" tools? Only problem is, artist and date?
Jaroslav: More can be put reminders, provide task tags, descriptions. Comments to the files again. But we have tried to remove everything that prevents a linear process, which are known for small groups. Where there is no paperwork, but there is a mutual understanding. So, yes - less bureaucracy, more business :)
LH: And at what stage of development at all? What I see now, in principle, already it looks like a complete working web service.
Jaroslav: Just came in beta. This means that the project is already stable, critical bugs in it there, but ahead of the introduction of new features that users will tell us. The release will try to get out before the end of 2014, but it is possible that will be able to do it only in 2015. We take the time to ask for money, we want to create a decent product at the beginning. Valuable for people.
LH: By the way, has the right to life and the idea of using Startaska for personal to-do lists? As Wunderlist, for example.
Jaroslav: Of course. I myself use Startaskom for personal to-do list as well. But we understand that in this field for competition on the level of personal tudushek we need to roll out mobile applications. We will do this.
LH: That's about mobile apps - literally removed the language :) At the same Basecamp old, I remember, was extremely disgusting HTML5-version, but the new problem is solved with the help of the native applications. And how are you? There are already some opportunity to work with mobile devices?
Jaroslav: We do not yet have a Web-only version, but it works well on mobile devices. On the tablet work with Startaskom a miracle as well. I do not think we will have some web version for mobile devices. Rather, we will focus on applications.
LH: Monetization is supposed to?
Jaroslav: About the price is still too early to say, but they will definitely be feasible for any person, at the cost of a pair of cups of coffee per month. Moreover, for freelancers Startask will always be free of charge, however it will be impossible to upload files to it. Similarly, you can say is closer to the complete failure of service. Up to this point the project is completely free, not only for freelancers, but for all, without exception, Startaska users.
LH: To clarify another point of security. There is some guarantee that you do not read my team tasks and do not use this knowledge against me?
Jaroslav Birzula: Of course. All protected. Each workspace is isolated from the others. We have only access to public information, which users entered when registering. In the future, we also connected a secure connection to all data between our servers and users' computers were on SSL-certificates. Probably will introduce other decision for the sake of greater safety. To preserve the data, we have already set up multiple backups of data and storage of user files in the cloud. We try to do everything possible to competently.
LH: By the way, there are already some "loud" examples of your users? I mean, all of a sudden Jason Fried secretly distributes tasks Startaske, rather than Basecamp?
Jaroslav: I have no idea, but it is unlikely. We just recently publicly opened. Just know that Kohl Turubara ChoZa with his command tried to use Startaskom. I do not know if they continue to do it now.
LH: Okay, sure. Then there is only to offer readers "Layfhakera" Startask look inside your eyes :)
Jaroslav: And we, in turn, will provide a discount of 50% of those who decide to use our service and after its release in the release. We just need to follow this link, and we will remember those who are on it eventually will register and issue a personal rebate in the future.
LH: Thank you!
Jaroslav: Thank you for the interview and for the readers interest. I would be glad to constructive feedback and suggestions, because we want to develop a project for the people.
