WhatsApp is working on the "Communities" feature

Portal WABetaInfo writesthat with one of the upcoming updates, WhatsApp may have “Communities”. These are spaces that will bring together people with similar interests.

• Within each community, it will be possible to create groups, dividing the communication into different channels and topics. For example, an institute can have its own community, and classes in certain subjects can be presented in a group format.
• Community admins will have more rights than standard chat admins. They will be able to write messages to all participants at once or invite new users using special links (Community Invite Link).
• The invited users can have limited rights set by the administrator.
• Community chats will support end-to-end encryption.
• The community icon will be in the shape of a square with rounded corners so that it can be easily distinguished from regular group chats.

The Communities feature is still under development for the beta versions of WhatsApp on Android and iOS, so the appearance, features and other options may still change before the official release.
