Cards, money, two credit cards. 7 biases that keep you from getting rich
Miscellaneous / / November 08, 2021
1. Cashback is a trick of the banks
Banks are interested in actively using their products, so they return to their customers a part of the amount paid on the card in the form of a cashback. And it can be beneficial to you.
Some banks charge cashback only for certain groups of goods and in local currency - points that can be spent only in certain stores, or miles from airlines. You can also receive real money to the card account, but the return is usually small - 0.5–2%. For cashback to be as useful as possible, start from your needs. For example, if you travel a lot, it may be beneficial for you to pay for plane tickets with bonuses. Or you can choose a certain category of stores in which you often make purchases.
It is important to remember that cashback helps you save money only if you are smart about shopping. If you start spending more just because some of the money is returned, then there is no question of any savings.
2. All plastic cards are the same
Plastic cards are visually similar, but they are different: among them there are debit and credit cards. A debit card acts as a personal account on which the client's funds are stored. For example, a salary or a pension can be charged on it. With a debit card, you can pay in stores, pay for utilities and perform other transactions - but only up to the amount on the account. Some options allow you to earn - the bank charges interest on the balance.
On the credit card, the bank's money is stored, which is given to the client for temporary use. Such a card can provide more freedom to the owner: for example, to go on a trip, you will not have to save up for a long time. But then you will need to return the money to the bank, taking into account the interest.
There are also debit cards with overdraft: salaries can also be transferred to them, but if the limit of their own funds is exhausted, the owner has the right to use the bank's money. Interest may be charged on spending over the limit.
3. It is more profitable to choose a card with free service
Not always. A card with free service, but without cashback, may be less profitable than the paid option, but with a cashback and a percentage on the balance. Suppose the bank charges 100 rubles a month for servicing the plastic. At the same time, cashback for purchases with the card is 1%. To get to zero, you need to spend at least 10 thousand rubles a month. If your expenses are higher, such a card is beneficial for you. But carefully read the terms of the agreement - cashback may not be credited for some purchases.
Sometimes banks make the service free of charge if various conditions are met - for example, if you spend a certain amount every month or keep a minimum balance on your account.
Plastic cards have long become something more than just an analogue of cash. Debit card "Profit"From Uralsib Bank allows you to receive up to 3% cashback on all purchases made with the card and up to 8% per annum on the account balance. Cashback is credited as part of the Uralsib Bonus loyalty program every month at the rate of 1 bonus = 1 ruble. The returned rubles can be used to compensate for purchases, pay for train or plane tickets, hotel reservations and other services. And in order to receive free card service, you need to fulfill one of the conditions - spend from 1 thousand rubles per month or keep the balance on the account from 5 thousand rubles per month.
Submit your application4. A loan cannot be taken under any circumstances
You can use credit money, but they should solve your problem, and not indulge momentary desires. For example, a mortgage will provide an opportunity to improve living conditions, and a loan for an education - to find a good job in the future. But borrowing money to buy a smartphone, however, needs to be considered. After all, if the apartment can still grow in price, then the equipment will definitely become outdated and become cheaper.
A loan should be taken only when there is confidence that it will not significantly affect the usual standard of living. If you doubt that you can handle the monthly payments, it is better to refuse the loan. With a mortgage, you can insure the life and health of the payer - this can be beneficial, for example, when there is only one breadwinner in the family. It is difficult to predict what circumstances will arise within 10–20 years, and insurance will help out in case of disability.
Read the loan agreement carefully: you must know exactly the loan amount and interest rate, as well as understand the mechanism of debt repayment.
5. To get rich you need to save money
Accumulation is not the best financial strategy. Once you save a small amount, inflation will eat it up. For example, in Russia, the annual inflation in August reachedOn the consumer price index in August 2021 / Rosstat 6,7%. In the US, prices, although slower, are also growing - the figure for August made up 5.3% in annual terms. American economists predictthat high inflation will persist until the end of 2023.
To make money work for you, you need to stop keeping it under your pillow. Rich people invest in promising projects, buy real estate, stocks and bonds. This allows you to protect and increase your savings.
6. Only the rich can invest
You can start investing with little savings - some banks offer to open a brokerage account with a sum of 1,000 rubles. Of course, in order for the result to be noticeable, larger investments are needed. But to understand investment instruments, you don't have to wait until you make millions.
A beginner can start with conservative options: government bonds and shares of large companies. Such investments bring little return, but the likelihood of losing money is less than if you invest in a young, growing company. You can use ready-made investment solutions from banks, which allow you to direct funds to various assets, choose the level of profitability and the degree of risk.
7. It is not profitable to keep money on the card
Sometimes bank cards with an interest on the balance can be more profitable than deposits. The rate on deposits depends on the key rate of the Central Bank, which either rises or falls. And the interest that is charged to the card account is changed by banks less often.
Another plus - when using the card, flexibility in money management remains. As a rule, you can earn more on irrevocable deposits than on revocable ones, but you cannot replenish the balance or partially withdraw funds. The owner of the income card can withdraw money from the account or add it there at any time, while the bank will continue to accrue interest on the balance.
With the card "Profit"From Uralsib Bank you can receive up to 8% per annum on the actual daily balance. For example, if the amount of the account balance is 100 thousand rubles every month, you will be credited more than 6 thousand rubles per year. In addition, members of the loyalty program can receive up to 3% cashback on all purchases made with the card. Map «Profit»Allows you to transfer up to 100 thousand rubles without commission to clients of other banks and withdraw from 3 thousand rubles free of charge at any ATM.
