Sweet and sour red cabbage stew with hot chili, aromatic anise and ginger will go well with baked chicken or duck.
Chop the cabbage. Peel and grate the garlic and ginger. Peel the chili and chop finely.
Combine all ingredients except sesame oil and cilantro in a deep skillet. Cook the cabbage over low heat, covered, for 25-30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
When the liquid has evaporated from the pan and the cabbage is soft and shiny, remove it from the heat. Sprinkle with chopped cilantro and drizzle with sesame oil.
Add sesame seeds and chopped green onions to the finished dish if desired.
