Dropbox will still come to Mac with Apple Silicon
Miscellaneous / / October 29, 2021
It was confirmed by chance.
It's been over a year since Apple announced the transition of their computers to ARM-processors. However, not all programs are adapted to run natively on Macs with M1 and newer chips. Dropbox is still one of the outsiders.
Although the app works correctly through Rosetta 2, users complainthat this significantly reduces the autonomy of the MacBook. At the same time, representatives of the service have not yet announced the release date of the native version of Dropbox for computers with Apple processors.
The situation changed unexpectedly. When developer Mitchell Hashimoto wrote in his Twitter that he is ready to abandon Dropbox after 12 years of use due to the lack of a version for Apple Silicon, the post was commented by the CEO of the service Drew Houston.
Here is a translation of his answer:
We will definitely support Apple Silicon, I apologize for any misunderstandings. We've been working on a build for the M1 for some time now, and are planning to release it in the first half of 2022 (and I agree that the support responses on the forum are far from ideal).
Drew Houston, Dropbox CEO
In other words, life for Mac users with the M1 and its modifications will become easier next year - but until then, the service will be available exclusively through the emulator.
