Cleanup.pictures removes objects from photos
Miscellaneous / / October 28, 2021
It does its job just as well as Photoshop.
Enthusiasts have launched the Cleanup.pictures web service, which allows you to remove elements of an image, tweaking the background as if the object was not there. This will be useful, for example, for cases where you managed to take a cute photo of a pet, but the background came out not so perfect. Here's how to use it.
The first step is to upload a photo to the site (including .HEIC files from an iPhone).
After that, use a brush to highlight unnecessary details. It's best to do this carefully without capturing too much of the background.
Then you just have to wait a couple of seconds while Cleanup.pictures does all the magic, and the finished image can be saved to your computer (or you can delete a few more details).
Large objects can also be removed: on the first try, the grasshopper disappeared from the photo. If the algorithm did not cope right away, it is enough to cancel the action by pressing Ctrl + Z (or ⌘ + Z on a Mac) and try again, trying to select the boundaries of the object more accurately.
The result is not always perfect the first time, but the tool works no worse than its counterparts from Photoshop and Pixelmator Pro, and you can process the image even on a weak computer. There is only one perceptible disadvantage here: at the output, images with a size of no more than 1,024 pixels are obtained on the larger side, regardless of how high the resolution of the image was initially.
