They have the same hardware based on the proprietary Tensor chip, but different screens and cameras.
Google held a big presentation of the new Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro smartphones, which were for the first time presented August 2. Then the manufacturer only briefly showed the devices and noted some of their features, but now he revealed all the cards.
Google began its presentation by introducing the first proprietary Tensor chip. It is an eight-core solution with a 20-core graphics accelerator, a machine learning module and a Titan M2 hardware security coprocessor.
- Tensor was designed specifically for Pixel devices. In terms of performance, Google puts it on a par with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 888. In terms of processing power, the Pixel 6 outperforms the Pixel 5 by 80%, and in terms of graphics - by 370%.
- On the basis of Tensor, for the first time, the function of translating audio in real time from any source is implemented. The presentation showed how the Japanese woman easily communicated with a native English speaker - the smartphone instantly translated the phrases of the participants in the conversation and pronounced them. The function works without a network connection.
Both smartphones received waterproof cases (IP68) with a two-tone design of the back panel, which is separated by a protruding camera block. The main module in it is now not 12 megapixels, but 50 megapixels. Google says it captures 150% more light than the Pixel 5's camera.
Based on the new Tensor camera chip, several useful features have been implemented, including:
- Magic Eraser - "magic eraser" for automatic removal of strangers and distracting elements from the frame;
- Face Unblur - a mode for capturing an object in motion, correcting blur;
- Motion Mode is a motion mode that simulates panning and long exposure on a digital SLR.
Also, Google developers have pumped up portrait mode, improving post-processing. Now the camera reproduces skin tones much more accurately, regardless of the lighting. Called Real Tone, the company has worked with professional photographers and filmmakers on this feature.
The 50 megapixel module in the basic version of the Pixel 6 is complemented by a wide-angle camera with a capture angle of 114º. More details about the characteristics of this model are below.
