Do not lose or win... that is the question

Remember about 10,000 hours of practice that can lead to any career tops? Forget. Practice - an excellent way to mastery, but not success. The higher you rise - the more you deal with those who are too "otpahal" their 10,000 hours. And then what?
And then comes into play "competition". And the main thing - do not make a blunder.
Two styles of competition
Scientists have long been dismantled competition "to pieces." And they came to the conclusion that success or failure in the competition are directly dependent on whether we are able to control their physiological reactions. Let me explain.
In our brain, there are two neural systems (focused on achievement and focused on prevention), and, accordingly, there are two different styles of competition under their control.
The first - "the game to win."
When we focus on delivering - we ignore the details. We believe that we will achieve success. If pressed for time - we are full of energy and quickly working. Competing at such a time - something very inspiring and exciting.
The second - "playing the avoidance of failure."
The case when we are striving not to lose what we have.
At such times, our behavior is equivalent to the behavior of a man who, when he saw the approaching at full speed wicked

We begin to analyze the nuances to gather information about the situation and the opponent. We are trying to be as careful and recheck all several times (hello, perfectionism!). And then the competition turns into a lot of stress.
Surely, if you would have the opportunity to manually switch the neural systems in the brain - you would prefer "to win the game"?
How it works?
And first, the way it happens. We begin with "play to win", but the closer to the win - become more cautious (Protect the comfort zone). And the turning point is included "auto mode" - "a game on avoiding failure."
This happens when we feel that we can not allow a single mistake - and begin to try to prevent a failure, rather than succeed. The situation of the call (complex problem) becomes a threat. Down the drain. Fuse struggle now for the victory just is not enough, and try to avoid mistakes in a state of extreme stress - just multiply their number.
And what to do?
Change the nature of the problem with the threat of a call.
If you are challenged, this does not mean that you should work perfectly, but you have a chance to rise to the occasion. Awareness of this activates the system that focuses on achieving success. As a result, the brain comes to equilibrium, as if all he is already familiar.
Decision-making process becomes automatic. Hormones calm the amygdala, making us fearless. And we feel a relief, a surge of energy and use all available opportunities.
What is the result?
On the one hand, new ideas and risky undertakings are coming up with people "play to win." On the other - the daily work teaches us to avoid mistakes and to focus on "the game on avoiding failure."
Perhaps the reporter should listen to your intuition and be creative, but it does not mean that it can take liberties with facts. Environmental scientist, you must have exceptional creative ability to find the right solutions, but they must be measurable, and reasonable. To do any intellectual work, it is necessary that both neural systems were well prepared.
If we want to win - we have to play to win. We'll have to abandon the usual thinking and overcome the focus on avoiding failure, to which taught us the daily work.
The flames of rivalry did not break out, if we focus on daily tasks. But it will burn brightly, if we set high goals and long-term deal with the fact that the risk of mistakes and go hand in hand. And, of course, let your ambitions run the show.
Eisenhower heard the phrase: "The fight is not so much the size of the dog, how many fights the size of the dog"? It's time to learn "the size of the fight" in itself.
