The Mandela Effect in Films: 10 Famous Moments Everyone Remembers Wrong
Miscellaneous / / August 01, 2021
A song about five minutes, a prize for a dance from "Pulp Fiction" and a famous phrase from the cartoon "Once upon a time there was a dog."
The Mandela effect refers to the cases when a lot of people remember something that did not exist in reality. For example, the phrases of politicians that they did not utter, or events that did not happen. The same applies to the world of cinema: viewers recall quotes from pictures or even entire scenes, but in fact they look completely different.
1. Darth Vader's line in Star Wars
Let's start with the most famous example of the Mandela effect in cinema. In the legendary first part “Star Wars"The protagonist Luke Skywalker confronts the villain Darth Vader. During the fight, he utters a shocking phrase. Many people think that it sounds like this: "Luke, I'm your father."
In fact, Vader responds to the hero's remark. Luke says: "You killed my father," to which the villain says: "No, I am your father." And then ominous music and the scream of a frightened character.
Most likely, the phrase has changed simply for the sake of convenience of quotation: it makes it clearer who Vader is talking to. It was in this form that she sold out in all kinds of parodies.Austin i am your father / @austinpoers / YouTube and memes.
2. Leg of C3PO in Star Wars
And here is a slightly less well-known story from the same franchise. Everyone who has watched Star Wars will instantly remember what a robot-translator looks like, helping the heroes on their adventures. C3PO is a humanoid android made of gold-colored metal.
But in fact, in the original trilogy, the right leg of this robot silver. And this is overlooked by many Star Wars fans.
It's easy to miss this point. In the first scenes, C3PO and R2D2 travel across the desert, and yellow sand reflected in the metal smooths out the difference. And later on, the robot is often shown from the belt or knees, and the lower part of the leg does not fall into the frame. However, just a couple of videos or even pictures are enough to make sure that it is really a different color.
In fairness, it must be said that in the latest films, the robot is really completely golden. But still, one should not forget about the first trilogy.
3. Prize in "Pulp Fiction"
Uma Thurman and John Travolta dance to Johnny B. Chuck Berry's Goode can rightfully be considered one of the most famous and cited scenes in world cinema. But sly Quentin Tarantino deceived the audience in one moment.
Everyone remembers that the characters took the stage wanting to win a prize. After the dance, they go home, and the heroine Thurman carries the coveted statuette. From which everyone concluded that they won. Someone even thinks that there is a moment of awarding in the film. But in fact, he is confused with this shot, where the host only invited candidates:
The situation is clarified in the scene in which the character Bruce Willis goes home to pick up the watch. If you turn on the original track, you can hear the presenter say on the radio: "Yesterday the prize for the twist was stolen from Jack Rabbit Slim's restaurant."
That is, the heroes did not win anything, they simply stole the award. And this is logical: they danced very badly, and even under drugs.
4. Hannibal Lecter's Greetings to The Silence of the Lambs
In the legendary 1990 thriller Anthony Hopkins played, perhaps, the most charismatic maniac in the history of cinema. Always calm and smart on the brink of genius, Hannibal Lecter appeared in the film for about 15 minutes, but most viewers remember him better than the main character. This image brought the actor a well-deserved Oscar.
One of the most impressive scenes is Lecter's first appearance on the screen. FBI agent Clarissa Starling walks up to the camera, where the criminal is standing with unblinking eyes. And further, according toWhy do so many people recall the quote "hello Clarice" in Silence of the Lambs? / Quora many viewers, he utters the legendary phrase: "Hello, Clarissa."
In fact, Lecter simply says Good morning (though in Russian it was dubbed as "Good morning").
And it would be strange if he addressed the girl by her name before she introduced herself. However, the audience remembered the moment just like that. Partly because of the famous ending scene where Lecter calls the heroine on the phone. Although there he says simply: "Well, Clarissa, the lambs are silent?"
5. Final of the film "Bolshoi"
Family comedy, released in 1988, glorified Tom Hanks to the whole world. According to the plot, a 12-year-old boy makes up his mind to become an adult at the device that fulfills his wishes. The next day he wakes up 30 years old.
The hero hardly gets used to a new life, but then he finds work and even starts a romantic relationship. In the finale, he returns to the machine, makes a wish again and turns into a child.
Although many viewers rememberLooking for the Alternate Ending to Big (with Tom Hanks) / Reddit and the "real" ending of this story. The next day, the boy goes to school and meets a new one there - his adult lover, who has also become young. But if you turn on the movie, you won't find that scene there.
Here the explanation is very simple: in the same years the fantasy comedy "From 14 to 30" (a partial prototype of the tape "From 13 to 30" in 2004) with Stephen Eckholdt with a very similar plot was released. It was this lesser-known film that ended with such a scene.
Apparently, many in the memory of the endings of similar pictures are confused.
6. A song about five minutes
Do not be alarmed, this composition really sounded in the film "Carnival Night». But the audience thought up some of the lines themselves. Surely you have often heard people hum: "Five minutes, five minutes is a lot or a little."
In fact, you can rehearFive minutes (from the movie "Carnival Night") / @ Cinema Concern "Mosfilm" / YouTube original and make sure there are no such words in the composition. There are similar ones: "Five minutes, five minutes, but five minutes is not a lot."
In this case, it is quite obvious where the confusion came from. In 1993, Valery Leontyev released the album "Ah, Opening Day, Ah, Opening Day!", Where, among others, there is the song "Three Minutes". It is there that the lines are heard: "Three minutes, three minutes - is it a lot or a little to say everything and start all over again?"
Over time, Leontyev's song was forgotten, and the famous words were attributed to a more popular composition.
7. Cheburashka's song
When remembering the famous cartoons about the crocodile Gena and his friends, many people immediately think of magnificent songs that sounded in all parts. And among them, of course, is "Cheburashka's Song", which begins with the words: "I was once a strange, nameless toy."
But in fact, this song did not sound in any of the cartoons. There is “I play the accordion”, “Blue carriage” and even “There are bream in the Moscow region”. And there is no "Song of Cheburashka".
It was recorded already in 1975, after the release of the third part of Shapoklyak, for an audio performance. The same team worked on the production: the music was written by Vladimir Shainsky, the poems by Eduard Uspensky, and Klara Rumyanova sang. Therefore, the composition sounds very organic, and many subconsciously write it into cartoons.
8. Umbrella of the old woman Shapoklyak
And one more common mistake associated with cartoons about Cheburashka, namely with the old woman Shapoklyak.
The character's name comes from the foldable Gibus hat, which she constantly wore. But she also had other bright attributes: for example, a handbag and a Lariska rat. Very often an umbrella is also added to this list. There is even a monumentSculpture "Old woman Shapoklyak with a rat Lariska" / Contemporary Museumdepicting her with this accessory in her hands.
But Shapoklyak never took an umbrella with her. Now it is already difficult to understand for certain where this stereotype came from. But still there are assumptions. For example, you can take a look at the 1961 cartoon "Grandma's Umbrella". It has a very similar heroine with the same accessory. Perhaps two images are mixed in the minds of the audience.
And also, perhaps, the old woman is confused with Mary Poppins, who dressed very similarly.
9. The final phrase in the cartoon "Once upon a time there was a dog"
The quote "Well, you, this, come in, if that" from the famous work of Eduard Nazarov can be found not only on the Internet, but also on T-shirts, cars and even in the form of graffitiGraffiti with a famous wolf appeared at the entrance to the Ukhta park / "Pro City" on the walls. It's just that it is almost always conveyed not quite accurately.
If you listen more attentively, this dog begins many of his phrases with the words-parasites "Well, you, this ..." or "Well, I, this ...", sometimes not even knowing how to continue. The same thing happens in the finale. And the wolf simply replies to him: “Thank you. You come in, if anything. "
It's a trifle, but there is still a difference. The wolf speaks briefly, clearly and to the point.
10. The name of the cartoon "The Flintstones"
Read carefully, and you will understand that all your life you have pronounced and written this name incorrectly. The title of the animated series about ancient people, as well as the surname of the family he talks about, is composed of two words: flint - "flint" and stone - "stone". However, the first "t" is almost always thrown away.
This letter is simply inconvenient to pronounce clearly, so at first it disappeared in oral speech, and then many began to forget about it when writing. But to make sure that the title is correct “Flintstones", It is enough to include any episode or just the screen saver of the series.
