Clients of eight large banks can now link the card.
Since July 20, Mir cardholders have the opportunity to connect them to the Apple Pay service and use them for contactless payments. About this "Vedomosti" told payment system representatives and Apple VP Jennifer Bailey.
The connection became available to customers of eight Russian banks, including Sberbank, VTB, Rosselkhozbank, Pochta Bank, Otkrytie, Rosbank and Tinkoff. Connected banks serve over 80% of issued Mir cards. There are about 100 million cards in total.
Mir is accepted for payment in 11 countries - the states of the former USSR, Turkey, Vietnam and Cyprus. The national payment card system also includes the partially recognized Abkhazia and South Ossetia on this list. Test operations are already underway in the UK, UAE and South Korea.
