WHO at the eighth meeting of the Emergency Committee announcedthat the world is in the early stages of the third wave of coronavirus infection.
For four weeks in a row, there has been an increase in the number of cases of COVID-19 worldwide. Also, after 10 weeks of decline, the number of deaths increases again. The virus continues to evolve, leading to more transmissible variants.
Most dangerous Delta variant is now present in more than 111 countries, and WHO expects it to become the dominant strain of COVID-19 soon, if not already.
The WHO also drew attention to the shocking imbalance in the global distribution of vaccines and unequal access to life-saving means. For this reason, most of the world's population remains vulnerable to infection.
WHO is calling for mass vaccinations of at least 10% of the population in each country by September, at least 40% by the end of this year, and at least 70% by the middle of next year. To achieve these goals, 11 billion doses are needed.
In Russia, the third wave of covid morbidity began in June. Now in the country, about 25 thousand new cases of COVID-19 are recorded every day. According to the incidence of coronavirus, Russia now
located in fourth place in the world.Read also🧐
