Windows update broke printer support
Miscellaneous / / July 31, 2021
Soon after Microsoft acknowledged the existence of a serious PrintNightmare vulnerability that affected all versions of Windows, the company released the security patch that closed this exploit. However, some users who installed the update started having problems connecting to the printer.
If this sounds familiar, then you're not wrong: in the spring after installing the security patch, Windows users also lost access to printers. This time around, it was primarily USB-connected label and receipt printers that were affected, especially with Zebra printers.
Microsoft acknowledged this problem and promised to release a fix patch within 1-2 business days. If you cannot wait, it is recommended that you uninstall the KB5004945 update or reinstall the unresponsive printer with administrator rights.
