8 things to take care of when moving to another city
Miscellaneous / / June 07, 2021
We minimize stress and optimize costs.
1. Finance
This is the main question, the answer to which will make it clear whether you are ready to move or not. Of course, the Internet is full of stories, how people with 10 thousand rubles in their pockets and one suitcase got on the train, in another city they lived on a mattress in an abandoned building, and then achieved greatness. And for some reason everyone pays attention to the happy ending, but forgets about the huge difficulties in the beginning.

Money is important, especially if you are used to living in comfort. They will help solve most of the problems you may encounter. And it also happens that the search for a job is delayed. Then the savings will allow you not to grab onto the first available offer, but to approach the choice more meaningfully. Therefore, it is better to first calculate how much money you need, save a little more than this amount and then move.
At a minimum, you need to have money for these purposes:
- Purchase of tickets and transportation of belongings.
- Rental of property: estimated monthly fee multiplied by three. In the best option, you will find an apartment without outside help and additional costs. In the worst case, you will have to pay the owner for the first and last months or make a deposit, and even give up to 100% of the rent to the realtor. And it's better to have enough money for the second option.
- Temporary rental housing while looking for a permanent one. There are not so many chances that you will go to a rented apartment from the station or from the airport.
- Household arrangement. The new apartment may not have the usual things, or you may feel the need to replace them. Even when it comes to a toilet brush and shower curtain, it's still a cost.
- Daily expenses - food, detergents, public transport. It is good to have a supply of at least three months.
- Airbag - you never know what can happen.
It's good if there is an opportunity to save on something. For example, relatives or friends are ready to shelter you while you are looking for an apartment - minus one item of expenses. But when calculating, it is still better not to take the minimum numbers. Moving - and so huge stress. And if money is constantly not enough even for the necessities, life can turn into sheer suffering.
2. Documentation
The idea of collecting all the important documents that you have and taking them with you is obvious. But we'll talk about how important it is to review the validity period of documents that need to be changed periodically. These are both passports - domestic and foreign, driver's license.
Of course, now you can change these documents anywhere. But it's not a fact that in a new city you will quickly get a registration. And its absence means completely different terms for issuing passports. Interior will do 30 days instead of 10, overseas - three months, not one. Driving license is even more difficult. They are made everywhere in the same period. But for this you need certificates from a psychiatrist and a narcologist, which are issued at the place of registration. So the replacement of the document can turn into an unplanned trip home.
If you do this before moving, then you will take the easiest route with the minimum of problems.
3. Hometown Accommodation
If you lived with your parents or rented, then this item can be skipped. But the owners of their own apartment will have to decide what to do with it.
Leave as is
This is quite an option, especially if the move is temporary or you do not really believe in its success. But it's still better to give the keys to someone you trust to look after the property. Such a person will be able, for example, during one of the visits, to notice that the battery has begun to drip, and to prevent a large-scale leak.
To rent
It is clear that the housing has a sentimental value. But if you decide to move, this is no longer your home. Idle, the apartment will pull money from you: you have to pay housing and communal services, which are considered not by the counters, overhaul. Better to rent it out to make a profit.
You can pick up the first tenant yourself. But it is worth considering in advance what will happen if he suddenly decides to move out. Who will check the apartment or look for a new tenant? It may also be worth finding a person who agrees to help you, or transfer housing to trust management.
Sell
A radical way for those who do not just leave, but burn all the bridges behind them. This option is not worse than others, and with the proceeds, you can already think about buying a home in a new place.
4. Things
Even if you are a true ascetic, you still won't be able to take everything with you. And it makes little sense. For example, transporting a washing machine from Khabarovsk to Moscow may cost more than buying a new one.
It is worth dividing things into several groups and taking only those you really need.
What you take with you
It depends primarily on the transport you are using. You can load your personal car under the roof and take everything you need with you. You can't carry much on a plane. But, of course, it is worth taking the essentials that will be needed immediately after the move.
What you pick up later
These are things that you can do without for some time, but do not intend to part forever. They can be sent on a journey in some less convenient, but cheaper way. For example, use the services of a transport company that accepts groupage cargo. Another option is to find a place for storage of things and take them away on your next visit to your homeland.
Once you understand the volume of things from this group, it will be possible to resolve issues with storage or transportation. Please note that this is an additional cost item.
What you don't need
Some things are generally not very useful. It may be advisable to part with some - for example, with overall furniture or appliances. And the earlier you started dealing with this issue, the more effectively you will be able to deal with the property.
Throwing out is not the only way. Some of the items can be sold through ad sites, the rest can be distributed to friends. Get some money and gratitude.
5. Bureaucratic little things in your hometown
There are things that require your presence. For example, Internet providers do not always terminate contracts for the provision of services remotely. As a result, you will not be in the city, and debts will continue to accumulate.
To prevent this from happening, it is better to find out with whom you are bound by the agreements and terminate them.
6. Accommodation in a new city
In the part on finances, we already found out that you will need two housing - temporary and permanent. But in general, no one bothers to start looking for a second remotely. There are not many chances of this: if the apartment is good, the landlord will not be waiting for you. But they are still there.
Connect all search sources: acquaintances, groups in social networks, special sites with ads. Perhaps luck will smile on you. Well, if not, then at least you will have a complete list of places where you can find housing.
It's easier with a temporary shelter. At your service hostels, hotels, apartments for rent. Here, Booking or Airbnb will suit your needs.
7. Working in a new city
Ideal if you have distant work or you are moving because you have been offered a place in another city. But not everyone is so lucky, and therefore it is also better to start the search in advance. At the very least, start mailing your resume. Or even an online interview will be successful - here the coronavirus pandemic has played into our hands, transferring many meetings to the Internet.
But keep in mind: it is important to make it clear that you have already moved with one foot. If a company representative has doubts that you decide to take this step, they will prefer a candidate from their city.
8. Registration in a new city
By law, if you intend to live in another region for more than 90RF Law of June 25, 1993 No. No. 5242-1 "On the right of citizens of the Russian Federation to freedom of movement, choice of place of stay and residence within the Russian Federation" days, you need to make a temporary registration. Otherwise, you may be finedAdministrative Code of the Russian Federation, Article 19.15.2 "Violation of the rules for registering a citizen of the Russian Federation at the place of stay or at the place of residence in a residential building" by 2-3 thousand rubles, and in Moscow or St. Petersburg - by 3-5.
In practice, many do without temporary registration. But in some matters, it greatly simplifies life:
- It is easier to enroll a child in a kindergarten or school - the local priority.
- More vacancies will become available - registration is important for some employers.
- You can qualify for benefits and benefits.
If you need registration, immediately look for an apartment with the owner, who will give his consent to this.
