Boston Dynamics is not alone in developing in this direction.
Robotics X Lab, part of China's Tencent Corporation, showed two-wheeled robot Ollie. On his example, the developers demonstrated the development of technologies for nonlinear control, dynamic control and planning of the trajectory of movement.
Ollie's wheelbase allows him to adapt to uneven terrain, as well as jumping and other actions to overcome obstacles on the way.
With a height of 35 cm, Ollie can easily jump to a height of 60 cm, as well as jump over precipices with a 360-degree turn.
Special shock absorbers allow him to overcome steps, thresholds and other irregularities on the way. In addition, the robot maintains stability during shocks and impacts, without falling to the sides.
Before any maneuver, Ollie plans a trajectory to maximize articular motor performance in advance.
A special third leg allows him to increase the load in addition to strengthening the body balance and provide additional angular momentum for performing somersaults and other difficult tricks.
So far, Ollie is only a demonstration sample. Tencent did not comment on the possibility of going on sale in the near future.
