What they write about the "Army of the Dead" in the first reviews
Miscellaneous / / May 11, 2021
Less than two weeks before the premiere.
The first short reviews on “Army of the dead"From critics who were able to see the new Zack Snyder film before the official release. They are mostly enthusiastic (although not everyone liked it).
Army of The Dead is a violent, gory, and bloody blast. Zack Snyder's latest is a ridiculously fun and over the top genre bending zombie film. While the entire cast is great, Matthias Schweighöfer steals every scene. Oh, and the opening credits are absolutely epic. #ArmyoftheDeadpic.twitter.com/6Seg3l1AFG

"Army of the Dead" is an explosion of cruelty, meat and blood. Snyder's new work has a strikingly amusing fit into the zombie genre. The whole cast is happy, but especially Matthias Schweighöfer. Oh, and the opening scene is absolutely epic.
#ArmyOfTheDead is bloody fun! Has great zombie action, character banter & killer music. Also, quite funny. Loved the world created by @ZackSnyder & that every character has a moment to shine. His style matches perfectly with the zombie genre. Opening credits are 🔥

It's a damn funny movie! There are great action scenes with zombies, banter over characters and just killer music. There is also humor. I loved the world Snyder created, and each character was given the opportunity to unfold. His [Snyder's] style was perfect for a zombie picture. Opening credits - fire!
I saw #ArmyoftheDead and I'm all-in on this world.
Pretty sure Zack Snyder just beat WB to the punch and made his own Suicide Squad movie, but with zombies. How about that. pic.twitter.com/xUb0lnylTs

I just watched The Army of the Dead and I am absolutely delighted. Zack Snyder showed his fist to Warner Bros. and shot his own Suicide Squad, but with zombies. How do you like that?
#ArmyOfTheDead is Snyder's best since Watchmen. His efforts to keep visuals interesting (he’s his own DP for this one) plays well with the “big dumb fun” energy that holds throughout, with the added bonus of a few characters playing better than they are written due to the cast.

This is Snyder's finest work since the Guardians. His efforts to make the film visually interesting plays well with the fun atmosphere that can be seen through the film. Plus some of the actors perform even better than their roles are written.
#ArmyoftheDead sets up a potentially interesting wrinkle with zombie culture... then does nothing with it. Dawn of the Dead was really inventive overall. This feels cobbled together from known elements. It's at once both enjoyably over the top and annoyingly over the top... pic.twitter.com/aR7JybQhSZ

To me, "Army of the Dead" seemed undercooked. The cast is good, the jokes are funny. But by mixing genres of zombie films and spectacular theft films, [Snyder] did not bring anything new to either. There are a couple of fresh shots in the middle of the usual meat and guts, but we have already seen everything else. There was an interesting groundwork for the zombie culture, but it did not work out. If "Dawn of the Dead" was innovative for its time, then "Army" is assembled from already familiar elements. As a result, it is both pleasant and annoying to watch.
