Disney Showcases "Real" Star Wars Lightsaber
Miscellaneous / / May 05, 2021
Spectacular, safe and probably expensive.
In April, Disney Parks CEO Josh D'Amaro announced the imminent appearance of a "real" Star Wars lightsaber, which will be available to visitors to the Galactic Starcruiser themed hotel. A month later, for the unofficial celebration of Star Wars Day, Disney finally showed off the novelty.
A video posted on YouTube shows a sword with a beam of light that emerges from the hilt at the touch of a button. The device looks very believable. How it works has not yet been revealed, but netizens based on Disney patent applications have been able to describe a rough idea. In general terms, the sword is like a modified motorized tape measure, pushing and retracting a sheet of LED-lit plastic to simulate the effect of ignition.
Disney Says New Swords Are Still In Development Walt Disney Imagineering Research and Development, but presumably they will be available for purchase to Galactic Starcruiser guests in 2022 year. Of course, nothing is known about the price, but given that the more primitive Disney lightsabers are already under $ 200 apiece, it can be expected that the upgraded models will definitely not cheaper.
