April 20 online appeared information that the hacker organization REvil managed to get access to the confidential data of the Taiwanese company Quanta Computer, which is Apple's supplier. In particular, they talked about the engineering diagrams of the upcoming MacBook and Apple Watch.
According to sources, REvil has asked Quanta Computer and Apple for hefty sums for their silence. The hackers threatened to publish all the obtained data, and to confirm their presence they posted several screenshots. They revealed some interesting details about the new MacBook Pros expected later this year.
If you believe the drawings, then on the right, the new laptops will have HDMI, USB-C and an SD card slot, and on the left - a MagSafe connector for charging, two USB-C ports and a headphone jack. It turns out that the 2021 MacBook Pro will have one less USB-C port than the current models. Based on this data already appeared and visualization.
The docs also show that the 2021 MacBook Pro may come without the Touch Bar, as previously reported by sources such as Min-Chi Kuo. The Touch ID button will remain the same as in the current MacBook Air.
The leak does not contain details regarding the device screens, but this gap was filled by analyst company TrendForce, which confirmed the emergence of MacBook Pro models with Liquid Retina XDR displays based on mini-LED technology, like the top-end novelty iPad Pro. 14 and 16-inch modifications are expected. How they might look in reality, so far, can only be judged by concepts based on leaks.
How Apple itself reacted to the extortion has not yet been specified. It is only known that the company is "studying this incident."
