Zigbee Alliance announcedthat will begin to certify smart home appliances under Project CHIP by the end of this year. Project CHIP (Connected Home over IP) is an initiative of Apple, Google, Amazon and more than 170 other companies, within the framework of which universal smart home elements that can work on any platform of the user's choice (Google Home, Homekit and etc.).
Simply put, a new icon will appear on the equipment box, which will mean: this is a universal model. All such electronics will rely on three main technologies: Bluetooth LE for configuration and synchronization, Wi-Fi for devices with Internet access, and Thread (a protocol for creating mesh networks, this is used, for example, in the Apple HomePod Mini) for devices with low bandwidth such as sensors movement.
The Verge predicts that the first CHIP-certified devices will go on sale by the winter holidays. The first wave of gadgets will include basic devices: lighting devices and bulbs, curtains, remotes for air conditioners, TVs, door locks (including for garage doors), security systems and routers.
This does not mean that you have to change all gadgets for new ones in order for them to work in conjunction: connect gateways some devices to the public network (but, probably, this only applies to devices supporting Zigbee protocols and Z-Wave).
