Among them will be the first woman to set foot on the surface of a satellite of the Earth.
NASA is officially announcedthat SpaceX won the contract for the delivery of astronauts to the moon. Elon Musk's company has bypassed Jeff Bezos's Blue Origin and is now developing the first commercial lander that could bring two Americans to the lunar surface by 2024. The contract amount was $ 2.89 billion.
This space mission is part of the Artemis program, which provides for three flights. The first will take place with a capsule without a crew, possibly this year. The second, scheduled for 2022 or 2023, will take place with astronauts, but without landing, and the third will allow reaching the surface of the Earth's satellite.
As part of the final mission, the Space Launch System super-heavy rocket will deliver four astronauts to lunar orbit aboard the Orion spacecraft. There, two crew members will transfer to SpaceX's lander for the final leg of their journey to the moon. After about a week of surface exploration, they will return to orbit in the lander, and then they will go back to Earth on Orion.
The NASA website says that one of the astronauts should be a woman, but also within the framework of "Artemis" to the moon should the first "colored person" to step, that is, African American, Asian American, or, for example, Hispanic.
"This important step puts humanity on the path of sustainable exploration of the moon and allows targeting more distant missions in the solar system, including Mars."
