Cameras and displays are good, but the price tags are not very good.
Sony has officially announced the Xperia 1 III 5G smartphone (pronounced Xperia 1 Mark III - the same system is used in the names of the brand's cameras). By design, it is almost identical to the previous generation, but the glass on the back is now not glossy, but matte: it will not collect prints so much.
As befits a flagship, the Xperia 1 III has a Snapdragon 888 processor, supplemented by 12 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage. There is no need to worry about the lack of storage: there is a slot for microSD. Display - 6.4-inch OLED with 4K resolution (21: 9 aspect ratio), 120Hz refresh rate and 240Hz sensor discredited. It is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus, Corning's toughest glass.
The same people who create Sony Alpha cameras worked on his camera - and, in the best traditions of the brand, a solid part of the presentation was devoted to the flagship's photographic capabilities.
The smartphone received a triple camera, all modules are 12 megapixels. The main camera supports Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) and is capable of capturing 4K @ 120 fps video. It is complemented by an ultra-wide-angle camera (f / 2.2) and an OIS telephoto lens with adjustable optical zoom (from 2.9x to 4.4x). An 8MP selfie camera is located above the display. The camera also retained the eye-tracking autofocus - it adapts even if the person turns his back, and then back to face the camera.
According to the manufacturer, the stereo speakers are 40% louder than the previous generation and support for 360 Reality Audio technology for surround sound. Dolby Atmos and Hi-Res Audio are also supported. Interestingly, the smartphone can be directly connected to the DualShock 4 controller (but not the DualSense).
The smartphone received a massive 4,500 mAh battery with support for 30W fast charging. Sony claims the battery will last 3 years. There is support for wireless charging (including reverse), but the power is not specified. The fingerprint scanner is built into the power button, and there is also a dedicated camera button. Interestingly, the smartphone retained the 3.5mm headphone jack.
Also introduced was the Sony Xperia 5 III - a more compact flagship that retained the Snapdragon 888, 5G module and the same camera. However, it is compact at a stretch - the 6.1-inch OLED display is only slightly smaller than the Xperia 1 III. Although the 120Hz frequency remains, the resolution has dropped to FHD, and the less durable Corning Gorilla Glass 6 is used for protection. RAM is 8 GB, built-in - 128 or 256 GB, depending on the modification.
The battery capacity is the same as that of the older model, but there is no support for wireless charging. The headphone jack and all the audio enhancement technologies remain.
Xperia 1 III will be available in black and purple colors at a price of 99,990 rubles, Xperia 5 III - in black and dark green at a price of 84,990 rubles. Pre-orders are already open and will last until July 20 - probably on this day, we should wait for the release of the new item. Sony is giving away branded wireless headphones for pre-ordering.
