Good news for those who have always wanted to control your computer via voice commandsAs in science fiction movies. With the power of dictation in OS X El CapitanCherished dream becomes a little closer.
The new OS X's dictation has become more functional and allows the system to carry out voice commands. But most importantly - a recognition of key phrases (almost "Hey, Siri!ยป), With which you can interact with the computer, all without touching the trackpad and keyboard.
Turn on dictation
Before using voice commands, you must enable dictation. To do this, you must do the following:
- Open System Preferences and go to the section "dictation and speech."
- Turn on dictation and, if desired, put a tick against the item "Use enhanced dictation." So it will work even without the Internet.
We ask the passphrase
Without a passphrase for the command you want to activate the dictation by pressing the Fn (the default), but it is much more convenient to do it with your voice, so we set up the passphrase.
- Open the "Settings" and go to the section "Universal Access".
- In the sidebar, switch to the "dictation", put a check next to the corresponding item and set a passphrase, which will respond to the computer.
- Click the button "dictation commands" and is included in the open execution of extended commands menu.
Add your own commands
By default, the system already has a ready list of commands to interact with the basic functions and standard applications, but it is easy to extend, if necessary, making dictation to work with third-party applications. To do this, simply add the appropriate commands.
- Open Universal Access settings for dictation and click on the button "Command".
- Add the command by pressing the "+" and set the necessary conditions.
How it works in practice
After all the settings, you can use the dictation as a voice assistant. I asked as key phrase "Mac" and now activate the command execution, muttering: "Mac, take a picture of me" or "Mac, the new document," and so on. The accuracy of response is far from ideal, but usually, if the team does not recognize the first time, then the second (well, a maximum of a third) will work exactly.
Yes, it is not yet of Siri, but something. And if ordinary users would rather control your computer the traditional way, that people with disabilities wiser dictation will be of great help, allowing to switch between applications, to operate the text, search for content, and do many other of things. Until Apple has integrated Siri on OS X, you can use this trick here with dictation.
