Few of us can boast of the well-developed social skills we need to communicate effectively with those around us. Parents usually think that we will just acquire them over time, teachers hope that we will receive by contacting peers. It turns out that no one really teaches us the techniques of communication, although they are necessary in order to:
- support any conversation;
- ask for help;
- set boundaries in communication;
- to make friends;
- communicate more effectively;
- to be remembered by other people.
The good news is, it's never too late to develop social skills. There are a lot of them, but most can be grouped into 14 categories - models of communication and behavior in different situations. Check which one you are (or would like to be) to find out your strengths or to identify skills that are worth working on. This will help take your communication to the next level.
1. Support
