8 bad habits that piss off when working remotely
A Life / / January 06, 2021
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many have been forced to work remotely. Not everyone found this experience easy, and one of the reasons is their own colleagues, who have not yet adapted to the new regime or do not understand that they are not behaving quite correctly. Here are a few habits that can interfere with your workflow or just be annoying.
1. Write and call outside office hours
Remoteness blurs the boundaries between work and the rest of life. It is not always clear whether you are still having breakfast, or have already started your working day and are answering emails. At the same time, maintaining balance is very important for productivity and mental health: if a person finds himself in an endless exhausting groundhog day, he works and feels worse.
Basically, employees themselves are responsible for making an adequate timetable and stick to it, complete tasks on time, not procrastinate and not allow things to spill over into the evening, weekends and other personal time. But it is rather difficult to do this if one of your colleagues wakes up for dinner, drags on with his part of the work, recalls important tasks at nine o'clock in the evening.
Respect other people's time and boundaries. Do not get out of the general schedule, do not delay work, and try not to disturb colleagues in private time.

2. Don't get in touch
A small delay in answering at a remote location cannot be avoided: a person may have problems with the connection, problems at home, he may eventually go out to eat or turn off notifications to work in silence. But everything has limits, and keeping silent for several hours, especially if the team's work depends on your answers, means letting your colleagues down. Nobody will say thanks for this.
3. Write to work chat not on business
Of course, it all depends on what rules you have in your company. But more often than not, a work chat is needed for solving business issues, and not for endless chatter. First, jokes, memes, and personal discussions will distract others from their work. Secondly, important information can be lost in this stream of messages.
If you have a need to chat with colleagues, that's great. Informal communication helps unite the team and improve mutual understanding. But for this it is better to create a separate chat and invite those who are determined to talk there.
4. Send voice messages to work chat
Not everyone is comfortable listening to them. In addition, voices do not allow you to write down important information that should be before your eyes. This can lead to a lot of confusion. So, when it comes to group chats, especially workers, it is better to get the message across through letters.

5. Make noise during group calls
If more than two people are talking on the phone, it is critical to maintain silence, otherwise no one will hear the speaker. The best solution is to turn off the microphone when you are not speaking, so that children, dogs and neighbors with a puncher do not rush into the air. Well, retirement in a quiet room and turning off possible sources of noise - TVs, washing machines, notifications on smartphones - also does not hurt.
6. Be late for group conferences
Working from home is relaxing: it seems that since there is no more need to book a meeting room, there will be no harm from a five-minute delay. But to ignore agreements without a good reason means not respecting other people's time and delaying work. Nobody will say thanks for this.
7. Not dealing with technical issues
Slow internet, lack of a portable camera and headset can make communication difficult and slow down your workflow. It is not very convenient if during video conferencing someone constantly disappears, answers with delays and interference, from time to time asks to repeat the information.
Changing the provider or tariff and buying a budget headset is not so expensive. But it will greatly facilitate communication in the team.
8. Do several things at once
If during the call, the camera is turned off and no one sees you, you can knock on the keyboard, sleep on your phone, read the news on the Web. But there is a risk that you will listen to important information and colleagues will understand that you are actually absent. And this is not very nice and tactful.
