Vivo X50 Pro first look - a smartphone with revolutionary camera stabilization
Devices / / January 06, 2021
Vivo X50 Pro arrived in Russia - the world's first smartphone with a camera stabilized by a gimbal. This approach reduces shaking and significantly improves the quality of photography in low light conditions. But that's in theory. To understand how things are in practice, we walked around Moscow at night with a smartphone. Let's share our first impressions of the Vivo X50 Pro and its ambitious camera.
Design
Give Vivo its due - they were able to make a recognizable smartphone. The point is in an unusual block of cameras with a huge main module. It seems that the designers tried their best to emphasize the main feature of the X50 Pro.
The rear glass is matte, so it does not collect prints. The device is available in a single color, which Vivo's marketers call "steel gray." It looks unusual and at the same time strict.
On the front side, we are greeted by a curved screen with minimal bezels and a round hole for the front camera. Under the display is an optical fingerprint scanner, works quickly and accurately.
The smartphone fits comfortably in the palm of your hand due to the smooth body shape. Moreover, it is very slippery, so the presence of a silicone case in the kit is dictated by necessity. Also in the box you will find a charging cable, adapter and headphones with a USB-C adapter.
Screen
Vivo X50 Pro has a 6.56 ‑ inch OLED display with Full HD + resolution. The pixel density is 398 PPI - not a record value, but enough so that the pixel structure is not striking. The small print is devoid of the friability that can be seen on the screens of some competitors.
The matrix also boasts a refresh rate of 90 Hz and a sensor polling rate of 180 Hz. The animations are very fluid and the touch response is accurate.
The picture itself is contrasting and saturated. The maximum screen brightness is 1300 nits, which allows for full HDR10 +. In addition, full coverage of the DCI ‑ P3 color space is declared, the smartphone is perfect for photo processing.
Sound and vibration
Vivo X50 Pro is equipped with a single multimedia speaker at the bottom. The sound is loud and clear, but the bass and volume are lacking. It is strange that the engineers did not pair the spoken speaker with the main one to provide stereo sound. This scheme is successfully used in many smartphones.
But complete headphones very worthy. They are made in the form factor of "plugs", well block external noise and give out a powerful rolling bass. The rest of the frequencies are also in order. The headset is equipped with a 3.5 mm audio jack and connects via a USB-C adapter. A strange decision, considering that the device does not have an audio jack.
The vibration is powerful and clear, but in this regard, the novelty is inferior to the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra or Xiaomi Mi 10, and it is very far from the iPhone with the Taptic Engine.
Cameras
Vivo X50 Pro was the first smartphone on the market with gimbal stabilization. The main camera is rotatable thanks to built-in hinges. The compensation angle is 300% greater than that of cameras with traditional OIS.
The standard module received a Sony IMX 598 sensor of 1/2 '' size and a resolution of 48 megapixels, as well as a lens with an f / 1.6 aperture. It is complemented by an 8-megapixel wide-angle camera, a 13-megapixel "portrait lens" with a focal length of 50 mm and an 8-megapixel periscope with five times zoom. Resolution front camera is 32 megapixels.
With a lack of lighting, the smartphone takes decent shots, but the potential of the stabilizer is not used 100% - the auto mode sets the shutter speed no longer than 1/17 of a second. More primitive stabilization systems can cope with such values.
It takes more time to appreciate the cameras. In a detailed review, we will tell you what opportunities manual stabilization opens up, how a smartphone shoots in different conditions, and what its additional cameras are capable of.
Other features
Works smartphone running Android 10 with proprietary shell Funtouch OS. It has become much nicer compared to the previous version and is no longer a copy of iOS. The speed of work is also pleasing, although it remains to be seen how things are with games.
Hardware platform - Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G with overclocked graphics core Adreno 620. The amount of RAM is 8 GB, and the built-in storage is 256 GB. The new product also supports VEG (Vivo Energy Guardian) technology, which prevents overheating and optimizes performance under load.
A 4,315 mAh battery is responsible for powering all components. The smartphone supports fast charging FlashCharge 2.0 from the included 33-watt adapter, and it takes 70 minutes to replenish the battery. At the same time, the built-in controller regulates the current and voltage so that the battery does not heat up.
Subtotals
Vivo X50 Pro is a unique device, if only because of its camera. True, the cost of 65 thousand rubles is able to scare away potential buyers. The final verdict can be made after a couple of weeks of testing, when all the advantages and problems of the novelty appear.
For now, just note that similar in characteristics OPPO Reno3 Pro will cost 15 thousand less, and for a similar price you can take Huawei P40 Pro with an uncompromising camera. So the Vivo X50 Pro will not be easy - we hope that the innovative stabilization will pay off.
